Chapter 188

    Leon’s POV

    6903

I couldn’t stand it. My wolf couldn’t stand it either.

Driving to the airport, the image of Skye pushing me away with disgust before crawling into Adrian’s arms yed on repeat in my mind. I was about to explode with rage. Every time I blinked, I saw her turning to him, choosing him over me. The memory burned like acid in my

    veins.

“Why are you leaving? Why are you abandoning Skye to him? Skye is our mate!“My wolf demanded, wing at my insides, making my skin feel too tight, like it might split open any moment.

“Shut up!” I shouted without thinking.

The driver’s eyes met mine in the rearview mirror. “Sir, are you okay?” he asked cautiously.

Only then did I notice my reflection–pale face, furrowed brow, looking absolutely wretched. My eyes had a wild, almost feral quality that would rm any human.

“I’m fine,” I snapped. “Just drive.”

I shouldn’t havee to rescue her at all. But when I remembered the bruises covering her wrists and legs, my heart felt like it was being stabbed. This had to be just the mate bond talking. I needed to break this bond with her as soon as possible. She was nothing but trouble.

My phone rang. It was Ethan.

“Alpha Leon, did you find my sister?” he asked, concern evident in his voice.

“Yes, I found her. She’s safe now,” I replied bitterly. “With that useless boyfriend of hers. She’s even stooped so low as to befriend Rogues.”

“Thank God,” Ethan sighed with relief. “But what do you mean about Rogues? How did Skye get involved with them?”

“Remember those three Rogues we locked up four years ago? They rescued herst night.”

“That’s quite a coincidence,” Ethan said. “But the important thing is she’s safe. Should I continue having our people track Victor’s whereabouts?”

I hesitated before answering, “No, don’t bother.”

“Are you sure? We have men in position who could-”

“I said no,” I cut him off. “It’s pointless now.”

Last night, when I insisted on going to Port Artemis with Adrian, I’d ordered Ethan to gather some Frostshadow warriors to investigate Victor’s family. Now it seemed unnecessary. Skye had made her choice, and it wasn’t me.

“As you wish, Alpha,” Ethan replied formally. “When will you return? The final trials for the Alpha King election are about to begin.”

“I’m at the airport now. I’ll be back as soon as possible.”

After hanging up, I stared out the window at the passingndscape. The city was getting busier as we approached the airport. My will paced anxiously within me, growing more agitated with each mile that separated us from Skye.

Sitting alone at the airport waiting for my flight, a sudden stabbing pain shot through my chest.

The sensation was unfamiliar, but I quickly realized what it was–the feeling of mate betrayal. My heart pounded with agony, each beat sending waves of pain through my body. My wolf howled in rage and despair, thrashing against my control.

I doubled over, clutching my chest as sweat beaded on my forehead. The pain was unbearable, radiating from my core to every extremity. Bile rose in my throat as mental images assaulted me–Skye and Adrian together in some airport hotel, her body writhing beneath his. The very thought made me want to shift and destroy everything around me.

The pain intensified, like molten metal poured directly into my veins. My vision blurred, and I could hear my wolf’s anguished howls echoing inside my skull. Aftering all this way to save her, this was how she repaid me? By sleeping with another Alpha? The betrayal cut deeper than any knife.

“Sir? Are you alright?” An airport employee rushed over, concern etched on his face. “Do you need medical assistance?”

“I’m fine,” I growled through gritted teeth. “Leave me alone.”

But the employee was already on his phone, calling for help. Within minutes, medical staff arrived with a wheelchair and equipment.

“Sir, we need to check your vitals,” a paramedic said. “Your symptoms could indicate a serious cardiac event.”

“I don’t have time for this,” I protested, spotting my boarding information on the disy. “My flight is boarding now.”

“I’m sorry, but we can’t let you board in this condition,” the paramedic insisted. “We need to run some tests first.”

“You don’t understand,” I argued, my voice rising. “I have to get back for the election. It’s crucial.”

The airport staff exchanged confused nces at my mention of the election.

“Sir, are you on any medications?” one asked cautiously. “Or have you taken any substances that might exin your behavior?”

I realized how I must look to these humans–sweating, in pain, talking about wolf hierarchies. “I’m fine,” I repeated, struggling to control my temper.

“Security,” the first employee called, waving over two uniformed officers. “We have a situation here.”

“Sir, we’re going to need you toe with us for a quick screening,” one officer said firmly. “It’s standard procedure when passengers disy concerning symptoms.”

“This is ridiculous,” I snarled, standing up despite the pain. “I’m not on drugs. I need to catch my flight.”

“Then the screening will be quick,” the second officer said, stepping closer. “But you’re not boarding any ne until we’re certain you’re not a threat to yourself or other passengers.”

    1961

I wanted to roar with frustration. I couldn’t shift or reveal my true nature to these humans. I had no choice but toply with their drug testing and health screening,

“Fine,” I spat. “Make it fast.”

They led me to a small room near security where a technician took blood and urine samples. The whole process was humiliating–being treated like amon drug addict when I was the son of an Alpha, soon topete for the title of Alpha King.

An hourter, after being cleared by their medical team, I rushed to rebook my flight, missing my original one entirely. The airline staff seemed reluctant to help after the earliermotion, moving with deliberate slowness as they processed my new ticket.

When I finallynded in the middle of the night, my phone buzzed with a notification from Elder Selene announcing that thepetition would be postponed by three days.

It had to be Adrian pulling strings behind the scenes! I never thought the always–principled Elder Selene would adjust the election schedule for him. Such a thing had never happened before in our history.

*Fuck!” I kicked a nearby trash can, sending it flying across the terminal. Several travelers jumped, staring at me in rm. Airport security started moving in my direction.

Why did Adrian always get what he wanted?

I mean…didn’t he purposely put Skye through betrayal pains just to prove a point? hypocrite.
