Chapter 190

    Victor’s POV

I was ten years old when my mother and I joined the Stormhowl Pack. Before that, life was a nightmare. My father was a Rogue, violent, unpredictable, dangerous. My mother wasn’t his mate; she was his prisoner. He forced himself on her, and when she became pregnant with me, she stayed with him. Not out of love, but fear.

We lived in a series of abandoned cabins, never staying in one ce for more than a few months.

Father would disappear for days, then return with blood on his clothes and rage in his eyes. On good days, he’d bring food. On bad days, he’d bring bruises. Mother would shield me with her body when his temper red, taking blows meant for me. Those nights, she’d sing softly to me after he passed out, her voice trembling but determined to give me some smallfort.

When I was ten, Stormhowl warriors finally tracked my father down and killed him. My mother didn’t want us to be Rogues ourselves, so she took me to the Alpha’s house. She knelt on their doorstep in the pouring rain, begging the Alpha to ept us into the pack.

That was the first time I saw Adrian.

I remember every detail of that moment. The grand house with its stone columns and ss windows. The warmth spilling out into the cold night. And Adrian standing there, watching us with curious eyes.

He wore clean clothes, expensive ones. His hair was perfectly trimmed, his skin unmarked by bruises or dirt. A watch glinted on his wrist. He looked like something from another world.

Meanwhile, I stood there in clothes three sizes too big, soaked to the bone, mud caking my worn out shoes. My hair hadn’t been cut in months. My stomach growled loudly enough for everyone to hear.

“Please, kneel,” my mother whispered, tugging at my arm. “Show respect to the Alpha family.”

I yanked my hand away and ran. Not far, just to the edge of the property where I could hide behind a tree and watch. I wasn’t going to kneel. Not to anyone.

The next day, we were officially epted into the Stormhowl Pack. They gave us a small house on the outskirts of pack territory. It wasn’t much, but it was more than we’d ever had before.

    My mother was ecstatic. <fndc3a> ???s ??????? ?s ?????? ?? find·novel</fndc3a>

“This is our home now,” she said, her face brighter than I’d seen in years. That night, she made my favorite dinner: venison stew with wild mushrooms and fresh herbs. She even bought a cream cake from the pack bakery and put wildflowers in a jar on our tiny kitchen table.

“Things will be different now,” she promised.

For a while, I believed her.

Then I started school. The first day, a group of boys cornered me during lunch.

“Look at the Rogue’s whelp,” one of them sneered. “Bet he doesn’t even know how to read.”

They were right. I didn’t. Not well, anyway.

“My dad says your mom spread her legs for a Rogue,” another boy said, shoving me against the wall. ‘Says you don’t belong here.

I fought back, of course. Earned myself a ck eye and a split lip. The teacher who pulled us apart gave me detention. Not them. Just me, The troublemaker. The outsider.

It wasn’t just me. Two women who lived next door to us stopped my mother while she was hangingundry.

“The pack housing is for real pack members,” one said loudly enough for everyone to hear. “Not Rogue whores.”

The other womanughed. “I lock my doors at night now. Never know what Rogue blood might do.”

I came home to find my mother crying. I begged her to leave, to go somewhere else. Anywhere else.

“We can’t,” she said, wiping her tears. “Here, you have a free home. Free education. We need to endure this, not run away with our tails between our legs.”

What she didn’t understand was that I wasn’t afraid for myself. I was afraid for her. I couldn’t stand seeing her hurt.

“Don’t listen to their gossip,” she told me. “Study hard. Be a strong warrior. Then they’ll respect us.”

So that’s what I did. I worked harder than anyone. I’d never been to school before joining the pack, so I was behind in everything: reading, writing, physical training. There were no shortcuts, only extra hours of practice.

After sses, I’d sneak into the training grounds to work on mybat skills. That’s where I first noticed her, a chubby girl practicing alone just like me. We never spoke, but there was something about her determination that mirrored my own.

Over the years, that girl changed. She lost weight, grew taller, became beautiful. She still kept to herself mostly, but I noticed she started attracting attention from other guys. I learned her name from the boys in the locker room: Nadia.

In our graduation trials, our scores were almost identical. I beat her by two points in physicalbat; she beat me by three in academic testing. Somehow, I felt proud of her. Happy for her. We were kindred spirits, outsiders who had fought for everything we had.

Then I discovered something that changed everything: Nadia was my mate. My wolf recognized her instantly during a training exercise in the woods. One moment we were sparring, the next we were in each other’s arms, giving in to the mate bond that pulled us together.

The forest around us disappeared. There was only her scent, her warmth, her touch. We made love on the forest floor, desperate and tender all at once. Her skin was soft against mine, her voice whispering my name like a prayer. For those few hours, I wasn’t the Rogue’s son. I was just a man with his mate, plete for the first time.

It was beautiful. Perfect. For the first time in my life, I thought things were finally going my way.

After she got dressed, she rejected me.

“I can’t be with you, Victor,” she said, her voice cold, her eyes avoiding mine. “I’m sorry.”

No exnation. No chance to fight for what we had. Just a wall between us where there had been intimacy.

I was devastated. I drank wolf whiskey that night, trying to numb the pain. Whether it was the alcohol or the rejection, I don’t know, but

the next day I failed in my Beta trial. Ten years of hard work, all for nothing.

My mother tried to console me. “There will be other chances,” she said. But I could see the disappointment in her eyes. All those years of enduring insults and istion, and I had nothing to show for it.

A weekter, Nadia left Stormhowl with Adrian. I saw her looking up at him as they packed their things, her eyes full of admiration. That’s when I understood why she’d rejected me.

Everyone loved Adrian. The golden prince who never had to struggle for anything in his life. Born into privilege, guaranteed sess. The heir to everything I’d fought so hard to earn a small piece of.

    What woman wouldn’t prefer him?
