Chapter 370: an argument

The moment Adam entered the bedroom he shared with Melody, a small vase came flying his way. He caught it just in time before it could hit him in the head.
He looked at her coldly as he ced the vase on the side. "What? Trying to be a widow already, Mnie? I don’t think I will make things quite easy for you."
Melody stared at him and clenched her hands. How dare he? All this while, he had been giving her a cold shoulder and talked even more coldly. But with her, all he could do was smile and flirt! How dare he! "What were you doing just now?"
He raised an eyebrow and walked in, closing the door behind him carefully. "Me? What did I do? Eat breakfast? You have a problem with that?"
"You were flirting with her. That bitch."
The calm on Adam’s face disappeared and his gaze became icy as he walked towards her. In the next moment, his hand was wrapped aroud her throat as he pushed her against the wall," What is your problem? Have you started thinking you’re actually my wife? You’re not. Don’t forget that. You have no right to interfere in my life."
"Adam!" Melody shouted, her voice shaking as he let go of her neck leaving her gasping . "Even if I have no right to interfere in your life, you cannot go after her! Anyone but her!"
Adam’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Why? Jealous? Because she looks like you, but I’m more interested in her?"
Melody let out a shortugh, more of a scoff than anything else. Adam took that as a yes and stepped closer. "But Mnie, let’s be honest. You are beautiful. That’s never been the issue. I didn’t stay away from you because you weren’t attractive."
He moved behind her and with a hand on her arm, twisted her to look into the mirror.
"See? You’re beautiful." He watched as Melody smiled and was about to turn to him tentatively so he continued, " But the problem is... you remind me of my brother."
He stepped away from her then and turned his back. He didn’t need to exin. He knew exactly what she’d think—that he hated her because of her past with Spencer. That her rtionship with Spencer made her undesirable to him.
But that wasn’t it.
Melody reminded him of Spencer in other ways. The way she lied. The way she acted like the victim while pulling strings behind the scenes. The way she could smile one moment and manipte the next. She was Spencer’s female version, honestly.
He turned around then and knowing his mission, goaded, "Your sister, on the other hand, has your face but not your undesirable history. She hasn’t been involved with Spencer. She’s different. She’s softer. Innocent."
He paused. And then drove the nail in with a single droll sentence, "So why shouldn’t I flirt with her?"
Melody clenched her fists. "Because this is my home, Adam. Whether you like it or not, people are watching. You’re supposed to be my husband. At least pretend."
Adam gave a shrug. "I didn’t flirt with her in front of your parents or even the servants. So what is your problem?"
Melody stepped closer to him and asked through clenched teeth. He had never behaved that openly with her! It was always Miss Melody this and that! "Why her?" she asked again. "You never looked at her like that before. What’s changed?"
Adam looked at her, then smiled slightly. "Didn’t I? You don’t know everything. Unlike you, I didn’t need to talk much. I just had to look at her, and she’d go quiet. One time she tripped and I caught her. She turned red. She didn’t even know where to look. That’s the difference."
He walked slowly toward her again.
"She’s not tainted like you. She hasn’t been around. She hasn’t lied or tried to use me to get money. I don’t need to be aggressive with her. I’ll take my time. She’lle to me on her own."
He looked her in the eye.
"Even Adir likes her. He wouldn’t care if we reced you with her. In fact, once we’re divorced, he might ask me to. He indeed likes Miss Melody."
Melody’s mouth opened, but no words came out. Her face was pale. Her body was tense, but she didn’t move. How coudl this be. She had done everythign she could to be Mnie and only now realized that Adam was interested in her as Melody.
She watched him leave but didn’t move. She stayed where she was, her fingers slowly unclenching as her breathing steadied. After a moment, she took a step forward and then another, staring at herself in the mirror.
She needed to turn back time and reim her identity all over again. But how could she do that?
Then, she shook her head.
Did it really matter who she became now?
Melody. Mnie. The names were justbels. What mattered was who stood beside Adam in the end.
And the only thing standing in her way was the real Mnie. Whether she chose to remain in her role as his wife, or walk forward as Melody, the woman Adam seemed to desire... the path woudl be the same. Mnie had to go.
Her lips trembled as the thought formed, but she didn’t stop it. She’d already tried to get rid of her before she returned. But her attempts had failed. In theing days, she would have to stage an ident. Where Mnie- the real one and the fake one would die, and Melody would get her memories back...Only one of them could exist. And the one that would this was the one who Adam chose to let stand by his side.
Melody clenched her hands once more and then immediately made a call, "Driver Uncle. Can you take me somewhere? But don’t tell my mother. Yes. I’lle out in ten minutes..."
