Chapter <b>815 </b>
Halsey shot Gilbert a cold re. He really couldn’t wait to kick her out.
Quickly, she grabbed Shaun’s sleeve, her voice dropping to a whisper. “Mr. Lane, please protect me.”
Shaun looked down at her small hand clutching the expensive ck fabric of his suit. The stark contrast between her pale fingers and the dark sleeve caught the eye.
William turned to Shaun. “Shaun, who’s this?”
Because Halsey was standing just behind Shaun, William naturally directed the question to him.
Gilbert, too, had noticed that Halsey hade in with Shaun. “Mr. Lane, do you know Halsey? What’s your rtionship with her?”
Shaun looked at Gilbert calmly. “Why are you so worked up about her?”
“I’m not sure you know,” Gilbert said firmly, “but she’s my fiancée.”
Shaun nced toward Halsey. “Is that true?”
Halsey shook her head quickly. “Things areplicated between us. But one thing’s clear–I’m not marrying him!”
Shaun’s face was hidden behind his mask, so his expression was unreadable. Then, unexpectedly, he reached out and wrapped his arm around Halsey’s shoulder.
She froze, while Gilbert’s expression darkened.
Shaun looked at William and said, “This is my girlfriend, Halsey Mallin. I brought her here today to hang out.”
William’s face lit up with surprise and joy. “You actually have a girlfriend now?”
Halsey was stunned. She hadn’t expected Shaun to call her his girlfriend.
Shaun leaned in close to her ear, his voice low. “I have to say it this way, or you’ll get kicked out. Just pretend you’re my girlfriend for now.”
Halsey whispered back without hesitation, “I have no problem ying along–after all<b>, </b>I’m the one who stands to gain.”
iming to be Shaun’s girlfriend would make it easier for her to speak freely in front of William.
She quickly looped her arm through Shaun’s and smiled sweetly. <b>“</b>Mr. Payne, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Mr. Lane… I mean, Shaun’s girlfriend. I’m really d to finally meet you.”
Williamughed heartily. “The pleasure’s mine, Ms. Mallin.”
He looked over at the two ck–suited security guards. “You two can leave now. Ms. Mallin is my guest.”
“Yes, sir<b>,</b>” the guards replied, retreating.
Gilbert was stunned. He wondered if he was hearing things.
Halsey was Shaun’s girlfriend? When had that happened?
He had no idea!
<b>For </b>the past three years, Halsey’s love life had been a nk te. She hadn’t dated anyone. Plenty of men had pursued her, but she had turned them all down.
Gilbert knew all this. So, he really had no clue when Halsey had suddenly be the girlfriend of the rising business star, Shaun. When had they even met?
“Mr. Lane, is Halsey really your girlfriend?”
Shaun nodded. “<b>Yes</b><b>, </b>that’s right.”
Gilbert’s anger red. “But she’s my fiancée-”
<b>“</b>I’m not your <b>fiancée</b><b>!</b><b>” </b>Halsey cut him off sharply. “Don’t spout nonsense. I’m Shaun’s girlfriend now!” “I don’t believe you! I know what’s going on! You’re just pretending to be Mr. Lane’s girlfriend, right?” Halsey’s heart skipped a beat. Gilbert’s eyes were too sharp–he had figured it out.
“Mr. Payne<b>, </b>they aren’t really <b>a </b>couple. Don’t be fooled by them!” Gilbertined loudly to William.
