“Mr. Payne, I really am Shaun’s girlfriend. Don’t listen to him,” Halsey quickly said. Gilbert sneered. “If you’re really his girlfriend, then prove it to me
“How?”
“<b>Kiss </b>him.”
Gilbert was insane–he actually wanted her to kiss Shaun right there and then!
Halsey nced at Shaun. His cold, clear eyes met hers. Their gazes locked, and she felt a flicker of awkwardness. “What’s wrong? Afraid to kiss him? I knew it you’re just pretending to be his girlfriend! Don’t think I don’t know why you came here. Mr. Payne hates being lied to. If he finds out you’re a fraud, he’ll throw you out without hesitation!”
“Who said I’m afraid?” Halsey shot back. “Shaun’s my boyfriend. Ill kiss him whenever I want.”
With that, she rose onto her toes and leaned close to Shaun. In a low voice, she whispered, “I don’t have much choice. Can I kiss you?”
Shaun caught the scent of her perfume and smiled. “Sure. If we’re acting, we might as well go all the way.”
He agreed.
Halsey had been worried he might refuse, but now that he did, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed a quick kiss to his lips. Shaun’s lips were soft and cool; the touch felt surprisingly good, stirring memories of Dwight.
Though three years had passed, Dwight had been Halsey’s first man<b>, </b>the one who had taught her about love and passion between a man and a woman. She still remembered those intimate moments vividly.
Her long eyshes fluttered, then she pulled away from Shaun’s lips and stepped back.
She raised an eyebrow at Gilbert. “Happy?”
Gilbert’s hands clenched into fists at his sides. He had bet she wouldn’t actually kiss Shaun, but she had, and it was on his own demand.
He was so furious he felt sick. “Mr. Payne-”
William cut him off. “Enough, Mr. Greenwood. Ms. Mallin is Shaun’s girlfriend. I trust them both. Today, we’re all here to y golf together, so let’s not spoil the mood.”
William had clearly taken their side.
Gilbert looked at Halsey. She was linked arm–in–arm with Shaun, giving him a teasing look. Gilbert was beyond frustrated.
But William had spoken, and there was nothing more to say.
“Shall we get started with golf?” Shaun asked.
“Sounds good. Ms. Mallin, do you know how to y?”
Halsey nodded quickly. “I used to y with my dad sometimes, but I’m not a big fan<b>, </b>so I’m not very good.”
Mr. Payne smiled. “That’s okay. Shaun’s great at golf. He can teach you. How about a friendly game?”
Shaun grinned. “A game sounds good. But what if we win?”
Williamughed. “If you win, dinner’s on me tonight.”
Halsey thought it was perfect. Having dinner with William would give her plenty of time to exin the situation with Lincoln Enterprise.
Halsey’s eyes lit up. “Deal. Shaun and I won’t go easy <b>on </b><b>you</b><b>.</b>”
Williamughed out loud. “Sure. Bring it on!”
