Chapter 1989

    Chapter 1989 Feelings Of Regret

Upon learning that Magnus had returned, the manager too burst out of his office, raising his hand tond a punch on Magnus.

"You actually dared to return. Where''s the money?" the manager demanded, seething with anger.

Magnus grimaced in pain, staggering back several steps. Yet, he didn''t fight back or attempt to dodge.

He didn''t respond to the manager. Instead, he looked around and asked, "Where is Denise?"

"I can''t believe you still have the audacity to ask about Denise. Do you know that her parents are ruined because of you?" the manager said, bristling with anger.

    "Ruined because of me?"

Magnus'' eyes widened in shock and disbelief.

"What''s with that expression? You embezzled the hundred thousand meant for saving her parents. Were you aware of the consequences?" the manager questioned.

Magnus swooned slightly. "How could that be? I... I just wanted to earn a bit more money to give it to her, so she wouldn''t have to work so hard... I... I didn''t mean to..."

He staggered back a few steps.

The manager felt that Magnus was full of lies. He said, "You don''t need to say anymore. I''m telling you, you should turn yourself in right now."

Shaking his head, Magnus said, "No, I need to find Denise. Where is she now?"

"I have no idea," the manager responded coldly. "How could she possibly stay here after what happened to their parents?"

Tears welled up in Magnus''s eyes, turning them red.

At that very moment, he couldn''tprehend why his heart felt as if it had been stabbed, a sensation he had never experienced before. He felt as if he hadmitted an unforgivable sin.

    "I''m going to find her!"

Magnus attempted to leave, but the manager and the others refused to let him. It was only after they had given him a severe beating that they finally allowed him to go.

Once he left, a coworker asked the manager, "Isn''t Denise still working here? Aren''t her parents also doing well?"

The manager let out a sigh. "It was Denise who told me to say this. Otherwise, do you think I would have just let him go?"

A person like Magnus, who could stoop so low, deserved to be behind bars.

A colleague scratched his head. "Why is Denise doing this?"

    "I don''t know."

The manager was also puzzled, but he believed that Denise wouldn''t be foolish enough to be deceived by Magnus again.

At that very moment, Magnus, battered and bruised, managed to escape and headed toward Denise''s rental ce.

Finally, he arrived at the entrance of the rented apartment, where he knocked on the door with all his might.

    Yet, there was no response.

"Denise, Denise! It''s me, Magnus!" Magnus called out.

    Unfortunately, there was no response.

    Chaos reigned in Magnus'' mind.

Could it be that Denise has left? I''m truly a jerk!

He lifted his hand and pped himself.

Denise wasn''t there, and Magnus had no idea where to look for her He slumped to the ground, scenes from the days he''d spent with Denise ying in his mind.

She was the only person who didn''t look down on him for being poor and genuinely cared for him.

She was also the first one to teach him that being too selfish was not the right way to live.

She had also taught him how to cook

    clean sta, do theundry, and

clean the floors. For the first time, he didn''t feel like

    a good-for-1

When he was being bullied at the nightclub, she would always stand up for him.

How could I have hurt such a kind person?

"I''m sorry. It wasn''t intentional. I really thought I could make some money. I really am aplete failure!"

At this point, Magnus had fullye to terms with himself, realizing how ipetent he was.

No wonder I have squandered the family fortune and Nathaniel wants to fire me.

Magnus had never experienced such self-reproach before.

He was lightly dressed, yet seemed unaffected by the cold. Alone, I

    stood there, staring nkly

    the

    pitch-ck night.
