Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Drama at the Birthday Party

Ji Yu had long anticipated the other person’s attitude. Besides, who would enjoy hearing such unpleasant words?

She merely stood aside, yet Gu Qixiao understood her thoughts immediately. He decisively took her hand and moved to a corner, intending to discuss other matterster.

The people around began specting about Ji Yu’s identity when they saw her.

Today, Ji Yu was dressed rather loosely, making it hard to tell that she was pregnant. Even though many were curious, no one dared to approach and ask.

Subconsciously, they assumed it was impossible for Gu Qixiao to have someone he liked.

But watching how gentle Gu Qixiao was with Ji Yu, they couldn’t suppress their itching curiosity about the nature of their rtionship.

Ji Yu’s attitude towards this matter was calm andposed, "There’s no need to waste time on this. Though, I’m quite curious about what tactics they’ll use to win you over."

The people on the other side were indeed anxious and approached Ji Yu immediately after hearing her words.

Being one of the hosts tonight, Ling Xia was dressed extravagantly, resembling a noble little princess. While she carried herself with pride, the look in her eyes when she faced Ji Yu betrayed her unease.

"Why are you here too? If I’m not mistaken, our household doesn’t invite just any Tom, Dick, or Harry," she mocked.

"Oh, really?" Ji Yu didn’t want to attend in the first ce, but Gu Qixiao was adamantly persistent. That’s the only reason she came, only to find the current situation extremely tiresome.

"Well, since you’ve already made it inside, there’s no need to discuss further. I can’t exactly throw you out." As she spoke, she nced at Gu Qixiao’s expression and, seeing no signs of anger, breathed a small sigh of relief.

Ji Yu couldn’t help but feel exasperated at Ling Xia’s servile posture. Clearly, whatever she saidst time had fallen on deaf ears. This woman seemed deeply fixated and showed no signs of letting go—her behavior likely wouldn’t change in the future either.

Gu Qixiao, on the other hand, remained indifferent, treating Ling Xia as if she were invisible. And yet, she still tried to approach him.

Is this what people mean by being "hopelessly infatuated"?

"Xiaxia, I heard you and Gu Qixiao are getting engaged. Howe there’s another woman by his side?"

Someone next to Ling Xia asked, sounding puzzled. They clearly suspected that Ji Yu and Gu Qixiao shared an unusual bond and seemed to want to remind Ling Xia. Unfortunately, they had no idea all of this was purely Ling Xia’s fantasy. There was absolutely no possibility between the two of them.

When Gu Qixiao heard this, he too was curious about how many people had bought into Ling Xia’s delusions and taken them as truth. Did no one even wonder about what was really going on?

"There’s nothing between me and Ling Xia. The woman standing before you is my fiancée," Gu Qixiao said matter-of-factly.

Originally, Mr. Gu was supposed to attend today’s event as well, but Gu Qixiao worried that such an abrupt encounter would make Ji Yu ufortable, so he outright rejected the suggestion.

"This..." The young woman seemed bewildered, unable toprehend their rtionship or why the situation had escted so unexpectedly.

"Regarding what Ling Xia has mentioned before, I hope you all can discern the facts. Whatever she ims about the two of us is simply impossible," he added.

He refrained from outright saying Ling Xia had mental issues—after all, her behavior was somewhat pitiful in its own way.

"Huh?" The people around suddenly exchanged odd nces, clearly uncertain about the true nature of their rtionship. On the one hand, iming they had nothing was hard to believe entirely.

"Xiao, do you really have to go this far?" Ling Xia desperately wished he would ept her proposal, but matters had already spiraled out of control, leaving no room for defense.

Seeing how things had escted, Ling Xia found herself at a loss for words, unsure of what to say next.

She could only fix Gu Qixiao with a pleading look, silently imploring him not to reveal what had happened before.

"Gu Qixiao, let’s go somewhere else. These matters don’t need to be exined too thoroughly—not everyone needs to know every detail," Ji Yu said.

Exining too much would leave Ling Xia humiliated.

Not exining, however, would make it seem like there was something between them.

So it was better to step aside and avoid answering these questions for now.

Since the statement hade out of Ling Xia’s mouth, it was only fitting that she rified it herself.

Gu Qixiao, naturally, had no objections and maintained his detached stance on the matter.

"Alright," he replied simply. His heart and mind were entirely filled with only one person.

Everyone else meant absolutely nothing to him.

He had barely spent a moment with Ji Yu before someone called out to him.

"Yu, I’ll go check what’s going on. Wait for me here," he said.

He was worried about leaving Ji Yu alone in such a setting.

"I’m not a child. Why would anything happen to me, anyway? Hurry up and go see what’s going on," Ji Yu responded, feeling exasperated at his overly cautious attitude.

Still, the attention she garnered from apanying Gu Qixiao exined his concern.

Gu Qixiao hadn’t gone far when someone approached Ji Yu for conversation.

"What’s your rtionship with Gu Qixiao?" asked a mysterious woman, seemingly fixated on the matter.

Looking at the stranger, Ji Yu suddenly wondered whether her earlierments had been intentionally provocative.

"Whatever my rtionship with him is, it’s none of your business. What exactly are you trying to imply with your behavior?" Ji Yu inquired directly.

Some things needed to be rified.

This woman had just announced in front of everyone that Gu Qixiao and Ling Xia were getting engaged, humiliating Ling Xia in the process. And now, she had approached Ji Yu herself—clearly, there was something suspicious going on.

"I was just curious. No need to be so nervous. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t dream ofpeting with you for him," the woman replied with unnerving nonchnce, as if her inquiry was purely casual.

Unfortunately for her, Ji Yu was far too experienced with situations like this.

"How about you answer me first: was your announcement about their engagement at the party just now deliberate?" Ji Yu countered coldly.

The woman seemed caught off guard by the question, her confident smile faltering slightly.

"Oh, so you’re talking about that? Yes, those words were hers. I only asked out of curiosity when I saw the two of you together. I wasn’t expecting it to create such an awkward situation," she exined, maintaining her calm demeanor and deflecting responsibility.

"Oh?" Ji Yu clearly didn’t buy her answer. The ambition in the woman’s eyes was overwhelmingly apparent.

"Next time you makements like that, I suggest you rein in your greed," Ji Yu warned, her tone sharp and unwavering.
