    “I hate you. Don’t even think about us having a wedding. Marry whoever you want, just not me!” Elyse shoved him away, turned her back to him, and covered herself again.


    Jayden implored urgently, “Please, don’t be angry. I need to exin. You’re pregnant, and getting upset could harm the baby.”


    Elyse snapped back, “You always said you wanted a baby. Now that I’m actually pregnant, you’re never around. You don’t really want to be with me. I’m taking the baby and leaving to build a life on my own.”


    Realizing the depth of his error, Jayden felt his rity dissolve into confusion. He stayed beside her, unable to embrace or even touch her, each attempt at conversation only met with her cold res.

    Elyse let out a bitterugh. “So in the end, it’s just your stubborn pride. What danger could there possibly be if you had juste back to me?”


    Jayden rested his head on Elyse’s shoulder and whispered, “Kieran is too cunning. He carefully nned his revenge against me. I almost fell into his trap, and that’s why I couldn’te back to you.”


    Elyse, having listened to Jayden, calmed down a bit, but the hurt from the past few days lingered. She closed her eyes, unable to face him.
