Chapter 221
A flicker of surprise passed through Reba’s eyes.
She hadn’t expected him to bring that up.
What really kept her up at night was how the divorce might mess with Samuel’s head. But there was no way she could just grit her teeth and keep on living with Jeffrey. So almost every time Samuel asked for something, she’d go along with it.
If he wanted to see Jeffrey, she wouldn’t stop him.
If he wanted to go back to Jsburg during the holidays, she wouldn’t say no.
As long as he grew up healthy and happy, she’d say yes to pretty much anything he wanted when it came to these things.
“He probably won’t make it,” Reba said, since Jeffrey was still hospitalized.
Samuel nodded knowingly.
That night, Samuel sent Jeffrey a message on his smartwatch: “ssic Mr. Hanson, you never disappoint.”
Jeffrey: “?”
Jeffrey sent a voice message: “Miss me?”
Samuel replied stubbornly, “I’m too busy hunting for a new dad to have time for you.”
Jeffrey teased back, “So your love for your mom isn’t all that strong, I see.”
Samuel’s little face scrunched up in confusion.
‘What’s that supposed to mean?‘ Samuel wondered.
“Do you even know what bigamy is?” Jeffrey’s voice was low and smooth, as calm as ever. “Your mom isn’t divorced from me yet. Trying to help her find someone else right now is just asking for trouble, you know?”
Samuel puffed up a little. “Who says my new dad has to marry my mom?”
Jeffrey’s eyes crinkled at the corners.
Samuel thought about how Jeffrey acted and deliberately tried to poke at him. “As long as my mom doesn’t get married to any of them, she could date ten guys and it wouldn’t break anyws. I’d even call all ten of her boyfriends ‘Dad.”
Jeffrey was speechless.
Samuel kept going, sending another voice message. “You should be pretty familiar with this, since that’s exactly how Jessica’s been hanging around you all this time.”

Jeffrey replied, not wanting Samuel to get the wrong idea. “Hey, it’s not how you think between me and Jessica. She helped me out before, I’m just returning the favor.”
After that message, Samuel didn’t reply.
Samuel thought, ‘Whatever’s really going on between him and Jessica, the fact is, it’s caused trouble between him and Mom, and Mom’s been upset because of it.
‘Bottom line?‘
‘What a jerk to Mom.
Jeffrey waited half an hour, but when Samuel didn’t reply, he sent another message: “Asleep?”
Samuel still didn’t reply.
The message was still unread.
“Make the arrangements. I’m heading over to Reba’s tomorrow afternoon,” Jeffrey told Gregory, who was standing nearby. “When they change my bandages in the morning, have them use some extra gauze, just to be safe.”
Gregory paused for a moment, then quickly replied, “Understood.”
The original n was for Jeffrey to leave the hospital tomorrow night and celebrate Reba’s birthday outside her vi.
But now that the schedule had changed, Gregory figured Mr. Hanson probably wanted to celebrate with her in person.
But…
‘Is Mr. Hanson even going to get past the door?‘ Gregory couldn’t help but wonder.
The answer came the next day.
Reba got a message from Jessica and went outside to greet her. Barely had she started leading Jessica in when another car rolled up and Jeffrey stepped out. He wasn’t wearing his usual tailored shirt and suit- instead, he had on rxed,fy clothes that looked totally out of character for him.
Reba’s brows knitted slightly.
It hit Reba–wasn’t he supposed to still be in the hospital?
“Happy birthday,” Jeffrey said as he got out of the car, his gaze meeting hers. His voice was low and maic. “Mind if Ie in for a bit?”
Reba instinctively wanted to say no.
But then she noticed Gregory standing beside him, looking worried and anxious. It had only been six days since the ident–there was no way Jeffrey’s wound could have healed yet.

“You should be in the hospital,” Reba said, her tone a little softer. “Not here. Seriously, does he even care about his recovery?‘ she thought with a sigh.
“So I can’te in?” Jeffrey asked.
Reba kept her tone steady, pushing down whatever she was feeling. “No.”
Jeffrey nced over at Gregory. “Hand her the gift.”
Gregory turned and lifted out a stack of property deeds from the car. He made sure nothing was missing, then walked up to Reba and handed them over. “Ms. Jensen, this is Mr. Hanson’s birthday gift for you. It includes, but isn’t limited to, an ind, a winery, and sixteen globally limited–edition sports cars, supercars, and sedans.”
Jessica: “?”
Reba: “Wait, what?”
“All the gifts have already been quickly signed over to you–they’re yours now,” Gregory added.
Reba hesitated, stunned. ‘No way…’
Jessica scooped them up before Reba could finish.
Jessica gave the deeds a quick nce to make sure they were legit, then looked around. “Where are the cars?”
“They’re being rushed over from all over the ce,” Gregory replied seriously. “Once the two vis next door are renovated, the cars will be parked inside. Both the houses and the cars are all yours, Ms. Jensen.”
“Even if you end up divorced from Mr. Hanson, none of this will evernd in his hands,” Gregory emphasized, just to be crystal clear.
Jeffrey gave him a frosty re.
‘Was that really necessary?‘ Jeffrey thought to himself.
Gregory could only stand there awkwardly.
‘Wasn’t the whole point just to make sure Ms. Jensen wouldn’t refuse to take it?‘ Gregory thought with a sigh.
Jessica carefully looked over all the deeds and purchase details. The total value was easily worth billions- especially that winery. The location was perfect, and both the size and quality of the vineyard were top–notch.
Jessica thought, ‘During the divorce, he wouldn’t give up a single dime, and now he just tosses a fortune at her for her birthday?‘
‘Does Jeffrey even know what he’s doing?‘ Jessica wondered to herself.
“Just take it,” Jessica said, pushing the deeds into Reba’s hands. “This is yours, what you should’ve got anyway. And hey, if you two ever split, at least you won’t have to worry about dividing up the assets.”

All this was processed through a ton of legal paperwork, just to make sure it would all be Reba’s personal assets if she and Jeffrey ever split. Jessica didn’t get why Jeffrey suddenly went all out like this, but hey–since he was willing to hand it over, Reba might as well ept it.
Reba looked down at the thick stack of deeds in her hands, still trying to wrap her head around it all.
“Gift delivered, I won’t stick around to bother you,” Jeffrey said, his lips a bit pale as he turned to Gregory. “Let’s go.” <fnc31b> Follow current nov?ls on </fnc31b>
Gregory: “Huh?”
‘Wait, where are we going?‘ Gregory thought, pletely stumped.
Jeffrey’s gaze was stormy, shadows flickering in his eyes.
Gregory instantly switched gears and said in a rush, “Ms. Jensen, we’ll be waiting next door until 10:30 tonight. When you cut the birthday cake, would you mind saving a slice for Mr. Hanson to try–just because he gave you such an epic gift?”
“You’re not going back to the hospital?” Reba shot a worried look at Jeffrey’s chest.
“No…” Gregory barely got out a word.
He was cut off before he could finish.
Jeffrey shot him a re that could make anyone break out in a cold sweat.
Gregory swallowed hard.
Jeffrey turned his gaze back to Reba, looking totally unfazed as he lied, “Yeah, I’ll head back. Just need to check something out over there first.”
“He’s lying, Ms. Jensen–he doesn’t n to go back at all. He’s nning to stay until after ten tonight… Gregory blurted out, sidestepping after Jeffrey kicked him in warning. “Because…”
“Gregory!” Jeffrey’s voice was icy, carrying a clear warning.
But for once, Gregory didn’t follow orders. “Because you were born at exactly 10:30 PM on the 26th, and he wants to be here for that very moment.”
The moment he said that, time seemed to stop.
Reba’s eyes sparked with emotion as she nced at Jeffrey.
Jeffrey radiated a chilly intensity.
He was hoping Reba would invite him in—not because she felt bad or worried about him, but because she genuinely liked what he’d done and the gift he’d given her.
“Don’t worry, Ms. Jensen. Mr. Hanson checked with his doctor before leaving the hospital,” Gregory said quickly, hoping to ease her mind. “The doctor says as long as he doesn’t overdo it, he’ll be fine.”

“Alright,e in,” Reba said, not wanting to make things harder for him.
Gregory finally let out a sigh of relief.
Jeffrey looked up, his eyes locking with hers.
Not wanting him to feel pitied, Reba added, “Samuel was asking about you yesterday. If you’re already here, go ahead and talk to him for a while.”
