Before stepping into the kitchen, Charlie quickly replied to a message.
In reality, there was still a box of eggs sitting in the refrigerator. Not wanting to give ine even a single egg, he cracked them all open and poured the contents down the drainage system. Although this felt wasteful, Charlie believed it would be even more wasteful to let those eggs end up in ine’s stomach.
Afterward, he grabbed a pot, filled it with water, and set it to boil before tossing in a handful of noodles.
While he was cooking the noodles, his phone buzzed with a text message.
He checked his messages and saw that someone had posted in the group chat named ‘Aurous Hill Welfare Institute Friends’.<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
This chat included twenty to thirty individuals, all orphans raised by Mrs. Lewis. They had integrated into society over the years, and most were now scattered across the country, leading to a more distant rtionship among them.
As Charlie opened the group chat, he realized the message wasn’t directed specifically at him; it was meant for everyone in the group.
The message was from a girl named Lisa Fey, who had also grown up in the orphanage. It read: [Let me share some wonderful news with everyone: Mrs. Lewis has recovered from her illness and is back in Aurous Hill!]
Lisa was someone Charlie remembered fondly from the orphanage. She had been abandoned at birth, and Mrs. Lewis had taken her in and raised her. Lisa was a couple of years younger than Charlie, and he had always thought of her as a little sister.
Mrs. Lewis had never known Lisa’sst name, so she had given her the surname Fey, after her own.
As Lisa grew up, she chose to work alongside Mrs. Lewis at the orphanage, bing the only one from their group who stayed on to help.
Seeing Lisa’s message about Mrs. Lewis’s recovery, Charlie quickly responded in the chat: [Why didn’t Mrs. Lewis let us know she was back? We could have picked her up!]
Lisa replied: [Brother Charlie, Mrs. Lewis didn’t want to trouble anyone, so she kept this a secret. I only found out when she arrived at the orphanage this afternoon.]
Charlie asked again: [How is Mrs. Lewis doing now? Does she seem well? Has she already returned to work at the orphanage after being discharged?]
Lisa answered: [Yes! Don’t you know how determined Mrs. Lewis is? She’s been away for so long, and she misses the kids terribly! She must have been worried sick!]
Then Lisa added: [But she looks great! It’s hard to believe she was ever seriously ill. She seems to have fully regained her health!]
Charlie let out a huge sigh of relief. After all, Stephen had sent Mrs. Lewis to Fairview Hospital, the best facility in Eastcliff, and he had covered her medical expenses, which included an expensive postoperative recovery n amounting to two million dors.
At that moment, others in the group chat began chiming in.
[Wow! Mrs. Lewis has been discharged? That’s fantastic news!]
[Haha! I always knew she would recover. She’s such a good person!]
Suddenly, a member named Jeff Mowry suggested: [Everyone! Since Mrs. Lewis is back and healthy, how about those of us in Aurous Hill visit her today? We can take her out for dinner afterward. What do you think?] <fna32f> This content belongs to ?ovelFind</fna32f>
[Yes, Jeff! That sounds like a great idea! I’ll be off work soon and can head over right after!]
[Absolutely! This is such a joyful asion; we need to see her!]
Lisa sent a happy emoji and added: [That’s why I shared the news! Since we haven’t seen Mrs. Lewis or each other in so long, let’s take this chance to gather and celebrate with her. I know she’ll be thrilled!]
“Could you all wait a day or two? Those of us who are out of town need time to return. I can book a flight now and be back in Aurous Hill by tomorrow!” someone chimed in.
Jeff then remarked, “It would be wonderful to have a wee dinner for her to celebrate her return!”
