“Are you going to Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical?”
James Smith instinctively asked, then quickly added in surprise, “What’s the reason for going to Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical?”
Arlo Hu replied, his voice tinged with excitement, “A friend of mine helped me secure a clinical trial slot for the Jiuxuan Zaizao Pill for Little Jimmy. He seems to have connections with the senior management at Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical. I reached out to him for a spot for Little Jimmy, and he agreed! We’re on our way there now, so hurry and bring Little Jimmy along!”
James Smith was taken aback, expressing his disbelief, “But didn’t you two get turned down by them before? Little Jimmy doesn’t meet their point criteria either. Who is your friend, and how does he have such influence?”
Arlo responded, “I’m not sure about his background. He mentioned having a strong rtionship with Liam from Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical, and while I can’t verify that, I do know Mr. Liam, and I feel he’s being sincere with us. So, I have some confidence in this.”<h3 style="background-color:DodgerBlue">
James Smith, however, was serious, “Arlo, you might not know much about the inner workings of Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical, but I can assure you that even Liam is just a spokesperson for the higher-ups. He wouldn’t dare to bend the rules for anyone.”
Arlo insisted, “But he seemed very genuine. I really don’t think he was joking. Look, you’re in Aurous Hill, and we’re already on our way. Just bring Little Jimmy to give it a shot. There’s nothing to lose.”
James Smith paused and asked, “What’s your friend’s name? How did you meet him?”
Arlo replied, “His name is Kaiden, and we met while hiking.”
“Kaiden?” James Smith was even more surprised, “If the person you know is named Charlie Wade, then this could work out. But Kaiden… I’ve never heard of him.”
Curious, James Smith then asked, “How old is this Kaiden?”
Arlo said, “He looks like he’s in his early 20s.”
James Smith muttered, somewhat disappointed, “In his early 20s… That doesn’t sound like Charlie Wade. Charlie is almost thirty.”
Arlo asked, “Mr. Smith, how is Little Jimmy doing?”
“Not great…” James Smith replied in a defeated tone. “The doctor in Aurous Hill mentioned that Little Jimmy’s cancer has spread to multiple organs, and the cancer cells are bing resistant to chemotherapy. If things don’t improve significantly, we might have to resort to palliative care, which would essentially mean it’s at the terminal stage…”
Arlo inquired, “Where is Little Jimmy right now? Is he with you at church?”
“No,” James Smith rified. “Little Jimmy is receiving chemotherapy at the day ward of Aurous Hill People’s Hospital, and his mother is with him.”
Arlo was surprised, “Is your wife there too?”
“Yes,” James Smith confirmed. “She wrapped things up in the United States a few days ago, sold our house, and brought our daughter here. Recently, she’s been taking care of the two children while I focus on church activities.”
Arlo Hu sighed softly and asked, “So, Mr. Smith, are you going to bring Little Jimmy here? If you do, I’ll wait for you at the entrance of Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical.”
James Smith thought for a moment, then resolved, “There’s an old saying in Huaxia: it’s better to believe in what you can see than in what you can’t. I’ll go pick up Little Jimmy from the hospital now, and then I’ll meet you at Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical!”
Arlo responded, “Sounds good! Let’s meet at the entrance of Jiuxuan Pharmaceutical.”
As they spoke, Arlo added, “By the way, Mr. Smith, my friend mentioned this is a somewhat special operation, so let’s keep it discreet.”
James Smith replied promptly, “I understand!”
…
After ending the call, James Smith turned to his church friends and said, “I need to step out for a bit. I’m counting on you all here.”
Most of his friends from the church were also from the United States. Several had arrived in Aurous Hill earlier, and, sharing simr religious beliefs, they quickly bonded and initiated small charitable efforts together through the church.<fn5c17> Latest content published on FιndNovel</fn5c17>
James Smith, also a Christian, instinctively sought out the church after bringing his son to Aurous Hill and had since formed connections with themunity.
His friends were aware of his situation and knew that his son was terminally ill, currently undergoing chemotherapy at the day ward of Aurous Hill People’s Hospital. They understood that this was merely extending the inevitable, and time was running out for Smith’s son.
So, when one of them noticed that Smith had to leave, they quickly asked, “James, is everything okay? Do you need our help?”
