I sat in the dining room with Hades while Chantel lingered in the shadows, silent and on alert as always.
I had gone out of my way to make this happen, the preparation, the risk. Opening the portal once more to invite Hades into the Lycan Kingdom wasn’t difficult. The difficult part was knowing she might not understand me… or ept me fully when she learns the truth.
“How are you going to cope with a werewolf as your woman? And from the look in her eyes, she’s a clever one,” Hades remarked, his tone casual but knowing. I said nothing, lifting my ss and draining it in one motion. I reached for the bottle, but he pulled it away and looked at me.
I had been drinking, and I still didn’t know why. Maybe because I’d never felt this fear before, not until after Iid with her.
After she stepped into my inner chamber, shattering every barrier, breaking the strongest spells with nothing but her soul.
She is no ordinary woman. Either she is demon… or my mate. But I saw no mark on her when I bedded her again, nor when I bathed her. She bears no im of mine.
I exhaled sharply and bowed my head. Hades studied me from across the table. A demon by birth, He is my stepbrother, older, cunning, and next in line to rule the Demon Realm after my stepfather’s death.
Out of everyone in the demon royal family, Hades was the one I respected, even loved. He had spent long months in the Lycan Kingdom during my youth, and those days were some of my best memories.
“You’re worried about what she’ll think when she finds out who you really are,” Hades said quietly. I looked at him and gave a small nod.
“She’s stubborn. Not easily tamed. Strong. I don’t know if she’ll ept a man who loses his mind every full moon.”
“She gave you her virginity,” he countered easily. “She’ll give you her support.”
I shook my head.
“You really don’t know Zephyrine.”
I leaned back in my chair, remembering the way my demon side had surfaced in the pool just to kiss her.
gods, why did he do that? He’s too possessive. He won’t let my Lycan form enjoy her. He wants all of her for himself. They were meant to share, but no… he wants her entirely.
“Do you think the council will ept her?” Hades asked.
“Anyone who opposes her will die by Chantel’s sword.”
“And her family?”
“Her parents are dead.”
“Siblings?”
I hesitated, frowning. I had never asked.
“I’m not going to leave Zephyrine, Hades,” I said firmly. “Even if she doesn’t want me, I’ll have her.”
He didn’t mock me. Instead, he smiled, nodding in approval.

“That’s the spirit. When I heard you summoned me, I wondered what could be so important. But this… my gods. I support it.” He punched my arm lightly. “It’s good to see you fall in love, little brother.”
Fall in love? I froze. Is that what this is? If so, why does it hurt so much when she isn’t near?
I nced at him and asked, knowing he have his own share of experience.
“Have you ever felt this way for a woman? Like a second without her is hell?”
He only grinned wider and punched me harder.
“Strange to see you like this. How did you meet her?”
I exhaled slowly.
“At my father’s funeral.”
At that, Hades went silent and poured me another drink. “Nothing good came from that stepfather of mine except my two stepsisters… and you. Drink up.“.
I drank, and when I lowered the ss, he was watching me with that calcting gaze I knew too well.
“It’s the best move, little brother. The best. I’m d you did it.”
I knew what he was referring to, and my mind sank into those blood–soaked memories.
“I haven’t found peace, Hades. I thought killing him would give me that, but I was wrong. However…” My voice faltered. “Last night, after Iid with Zephyrine… something in me changed. I want her at all costs, even if I have to chain her beside me. Even if I have to break her so she can’t run from me.”
Hades didn’t flinch. He didn’t look at me like I was mad. He understood, just as he had understood when he helped me crush my father’s skull.
“Then we’ll do it,” he said simply. “If she won’t stay willingly, we’ll imprison her. Break her spirit until she crawls back to you.”
His words should have unsettled me. Instead, I felt relief.
That’s when I heard hurried footsteps. Mearez appeared, her face pale.
“The duel has been issued, Lycannar,” she said breathlessly. “It’s tonight.”
My body went rigid. The death duel?
