The ascension for the Lycan Kingdom was in full swing, yet surprisingly, the King was nowhere in sight, just as absent as he had been at the afterparty of his coronation.

I settled into my seat beside Ka, watching the hosts supervise as usual. We had all been invited. The hall was full, just as it had been for the coronation, yet she wasn’t here. Zeph.

Soft music yed in the background, lulling me into slow nods. Ka had been tasked with hosting the ceremony by Lord Dareth, though Apex seemed against it. The role was eventually handed to Dessyn, Zeph’s best friend.

Thinking of her made me reach for the wine on my table, taking a slow sip. Weeks had passed, and tomorrow night, under the full moon, I would reject her publicly.

Ka had been carefully chosen as hostess. I knew she would execute it perfectly. Zeph would be disgraced, and she would regret ever choosing a cursed man so strange over me.

I lifted my goblet again, only to find it empty. Swallowing hard, I beckoned the maid walking past, assisting Dessyn.

    “Refill my cup.”

“Yes, Alpha Nyroth,” she replied, moving to obey until Ka intercepted the goblet, smirking with that familiar, wicked confidence.

“Don’t bother. The hostess should serve the cup,” Ka said, raising an eyebrow at the maid.

    “Ma’am, it’s our job to refill…”

    “How dare you…”

    Ssh!

The sound echoed through the hall, silencing everyone. I stared at Ka in disbelief.

    Why…?

She had spilled the wine over the maid’s face, standing defiantly as all eyes turned toward them. Dessyn, issuing a silent protest to someone, froze in awe before quickly making her way toward our table.

She red at the soaked maid, then fixed her icy stare on Ka.

    “What did you just do?”

“Correct a low–life omega because her boss won’t,” Ka replied, shing that seductive smile she always used to dominate. “Everyone, be honest. Do you approve of the hostess’s work?”

Before anyone could answer, Ka nodded.

“It’s terrible, yes. Outdated songs, poorly served drinks, rude hosting. I, as envoy of peace, knows there are

She turned her gaze to Dessyn.

“You are a lowlife. I know your crazy friend bought you this position with her body. If not, you shouldn’t even be here among high–status people, being rude.”

“Bought it with her body? More like what you did to steal the pack your father ruled.”

Decorum fell heavy in the chamber. I could not stay seated. I sprang to my feet, pointing at Dessyn.

“Watch that sharp tongue of yours and Speak only facts!”

She did not falter, meeting me coldly.

“I speak fact. But why argue with a man who’s never been faithful to his mate?”

My blood boiled. I raised my palm to strike her but the door burst open, and she stepped in, interrupting the tension.

Dressed in a gown I had never seen, her hair cascading to her waist, Zeph moved with the quiet authority of

    a queen.

Behind her, the maid Apex had gifted her is in attendance. My eyes traced her from head to toe, finally stopping on the ring around her finger. Apex’s.

The hall turned silent. A strange, manding aura radiated from her as she stepped forward, and I swallowed hard at the undeniable truth.

“Zephyr,” Dessyn whispered, frozen at her presence, rushing into her embrace, making it look like Zeph had just returned from her journey.

Dessyn exchanged a silent conversation with her, then Zeph turned toward our table, walking with measured grace. Her eyes swept the maid, soaked in wine, then Ka. Gazes filled with an understanding we did not understand. She scoffed.

“You brought your rudeness into the Lycan Kingdom and spilled wine on their servant. You think you will be set free?”

    Ka straightened, smirking.

“Why? Will you tell your boyfriend?”

No sooner had she spoken than a cold wind swept through the hall. Every head turned, and there he was. After a long absence, he appeared. Unbothered yet bothered, as always. Long hair flowing, his presence more maic than I could admit.

    Apex.

Dressed in ck, his gaze low, avoiding direct eye contact, yet brimming with unspoken intensity. His eyes lifted to Zeph with the same unwavering, obsessive focus.

I watched him swallow hard, then a faint frown creasing his brow when he saw the maid who has been soaked with wine. He motioned carefully to the maid, careful not to meet her eyes.

“Where is Serena?” he murmured. One of his elder sisters rushed forward through the door. Not the gentle healer, but another, sharper presence. She froze at Zeph, moving cautiously, seeing the soaked maid.

    “What…”

“It was done by this rudedy, Princess Seeena,” Dessyn exined. Apex turned to his sister.

“It is your task to maintain order among themoners. No mere wolf shall harm my people. Make her pay,” hemanded.

I swallowed hard. Ka stirred beside me, suddenly aware of her mistake.

The heat in the hall thickened until Apex’s eyes returned to Zeph. Without hesitation, he circled his fingers around her wrist. Together, they walked out, like two souls already bound to one another.
