“Zephyrine.” Princess Mearez called, and I rushed to hug her tightly. Before turning to Princess Serena, I pulled her into another firm embrace.
It felt as though this was the first time we had truly seen each other in years. Last night had happened so fast, and I had left far too early. Now, seeing them here at a werewolf event, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. They were here for me. Just for me.
“My baby brother said you’ll be weak when you reject that man,” Princess Serena said, and I almost smiled. By “that man,” I knew she meant Nyroth.
I nodded and turned to Princess Mearez, who had been staring at me in silence. It was as though she carried something heavy in her heart, or perhaps she sensed something within me she had never felt before.
“The aura oozing from you feels stronger than before, Zephyrine,” she finally muttered. I swallowed hard; it was because I am now an Alpha.
Before I could respond, the soft jingling of bells from the priestess ahead announced the start of the rejection ceremony. This was it. After five years of no respect and no affection… this was it.
“Can Blue sit with you?” I asked Princess Mearez, but Princess Serena looked at me in mild confusion.
“Of course. You forget she is a Lycan.”
I smiled and watched my personal maid take her seat gently on the chair. Then I slowly turned my gaze back to the priestess and sighed.
I was about to step forward when Princess Mearez caught my wrist tenderly. I looked at her, curious about her words.
“Thank you for doing this,” she said softly. I searched her eyes, unable to restrain my emotions, and hugged her again.
“It’s for me. Not for Lycannar,” I said before pulling back.
Turning toward the priestess again, I saw Nyroth standing at attention. I set my jaw. Here we go.
I took a step forward but then he began his speech, stopping me in my tracks. Everyone had settled down, and the rejection was about to begin.
I expected him to <i>go </i>straight to the point, but he seemed intent on giving a speech first. I had no issue with that. I would only retaliate if he crossed a line.
I walked to my seat beside Princess Mearez, ready to listen.
“I appreciate everyone here at this gathering tonight,” he began steadily. “As you all know, any werewolf of Hue Pack is mated once in a lifetime. Surely, everyone is wondering why the Alpha of that same pack is willing to reject his mate, bgjgthe mate he was meant to keep for life.”
The hall went silent, all eyes focused on him. From the corner of my eyes, I saw Pam arriving with Olivia.

“This is all because of my mate… sadly,” he said, wearing a mournful expression. “My mate is a thief.”
Murmurs rippled through the hall. I sat there, confused and curious. A thief? How?
From the corner of my eyes, I saw White Pack ncing my way, but I stayed focused on Nyroth. I wanted to hear every word.
“Five years ago, I met her under a full moon like this one. She was poor, a rogue with no pack, no home. I helped her, sheltered her, and vowed to make her my Luna despite her low status. And what did she do?”
The hall fell silent. Everyone wanted to hear his ount of my supposed betrayal.<fndd94> Updates are released by find?novel</fndd94>

“She cheated on me many times,” he revealed, and murmurs arose again. “Not only that. She is a thief who stole money from a source I do not know. A huge amount, which she used to get on my good side. That was how she crawled into my life. With seduction, bribery, and the mate bond. But that was not why I helped her. No. I cherished her. She is my mate. I did not want her to be homeless and I opened my pack gates for her. But in the end, when she saw a man she thought was better than me, she demanded rejection. I begged. On my knees, politely, with everything I had. But she had made up her mind. That is why I have called upon everyone to witness how I gave her the freedom she always wanted.”

Goosebumps prickled my skin as I sat there, staring at him without blinking. For a heartbeat, the world seemed to pause. He had called me a thief because I had given him money. The same money I had sacrificed to save his pack. He had called it bribery, and me a thief. That… was unforgivable.
Slowly, I lowered my gaze and swallowed. With each passing second, anger grew inside me. Anger at myself for sacrificing my parents‘ money for a man who had never seen my worth and never would.
“Come over, Zeph. It’s starting,” Nyroth’s voice finally came, and I swear I could feel it deep in my bones.
The weight of all eyes settled on me. Murmurs and gossip rippled instantly through the hall.
I remained seated for a few more moments before rising to my feet. He wanted to tell the world how he had sheltered me, how I was a rogue? Perhaps it was finally time to tell him the truth.
