The carriage stopped in my pack, yet again I found no peace. Not once. It began to dawn on me how much it hurt. Agonizing, even, to see her happy in another man’s arms.
I sat still in that seat, recalling the first time I stepped into the Lycan Kingdom. Apex had stared at Zeph without blinking. That day, I was mad. Now I understand the reason behind that anger. It was jealousy.
I sighed heavily, wondering how to gain her attention now. She would not talk to me and… gods… that unsettling king never left me a chance at all.

“Brother?! Brother!!” Olivia’s panic call dragged me back to reality. I stepped out of the carriage just as she rushed toward me, breathless..
My eyes shifted from her face to where she had run from.
“You went out?” I asked, moving my gaze from the gate back to her.
“Mother. You have to stop her,” she gasped once she caught her breath.
I raised a brow, confused.
“How do you mean? Is Mother not inside?” I asked angrily, but she shook her head frantically.
“She went to ckbridge Pack. She swore to make Ka regret ever using you and lying to you.”
I froze instantly at those words. I stiffened. Ka. ckbridge Pack. Oh no.
“Get inside. I will be back,” Imanded my sister before rushing toward ckbridge Pack.
I knew who they were, the Yadevs, and I knew what they could do. Only days ago, we had spoken of ruining the Ashmere reputation, believing them powerless since they shut their gates for five years. But those ns were canceled. The pack we thought Alphaless wasn’t weak after all.
I arrived in no time, just to hear my mother’s voice yelling.
I froze at my feet, then arrived.
turned slowly toward the courtyard. Ka’s carriage was already there. She had
Hastily, I entered the hall, pushing open the doors to the wide living room just as my mother red daggers at Ka. My mother was seething, as usual, while Ka stood defiant. Alpha Yadev was present, with his guards and men surrounding him.
“You harlot. You made him lose everything. You will pay for that,” my mother spat furiously, but Ka only smirked.
“Your son is nothing but a fool. I owe him nothing. Did he not tell you I gave him my body too?”
My mother stepped closer, shaking with rage.
“If you had not lied about saving him, he would never have fallen for trash like you. You never know what it

means to be mated. You made him reject his mate, you prostitute! I should have chased you off the day you set foot in Hue Pack after you returned from that so–called mission of yours.”
Ka matched her fury, then lowered her gaze with a mocking smile.
“I have nothing more to say to you, old hag. Get out of this pack.” She turned her eyes to me and sneered. “With your loser son.”
That hit a nerve. My mother moved to p her, but Ka retaliated, catching her wrist before any impactnded.
My mother’s face shifted to shock and hatred as Ka’s eyes zed with a deathly warning.
“If you ever try that with me again… you will not see tomorrow.” She dropped her wrist roughly, leaving my mother pale from the threat. “And if you ever barge into my pack again, I’ll make sure you know the truth that being called the first female envoy of peace is nothing but a lie.”
My mother staggered back, shaken, and I rushed to steady her before she copsed. Just then, Kai burst into the living room, panting as though he had run here.
“Mother!” he cried, panicked, as I passed her into his arms and stepped toward Ka.
It struck me then that she was truly ready to cast me aside, but I needed one answer before I let her go.
“Why?” I asked, my voice low. “Why did you lie about being my savior years ago? They call you an envoy of peace, yet all you’ve done is bring chaos. Is this how you were taught to keep peace?”
She stared at me in silence, then leaned closer, her voice a whisper.
“I was never an envoy of peace, Nyroth. I only traded blood for power and they gave me the title.”
Stunned, I could only watch her pull back with a smile.
“No need to get worked up. We both used one another to get what we wanted. But now, I’m afraid our little escapade ends here. I have a new man my mother arranged for me. I’ll be dining with him tonight. Wish me luck and I wish you luck too, in whatever future endeavors you may find.”
She nced once more at my mother, then walked away, leaving me cold and stunned. I stood there a long moment before moving to the exit, the dawning truth heavy in me.<fn4b33> Follow current nov?ls on find{n}ovel</fn4b33>
Kai had already brought a carriage. He helped my Mother inside while I followed in silence.
As the carriage rolled away from ckbridge, Mother leaned on me, still pale and shaken by Ka’s threat. I understood her fear.
We passed through the crowdedne, people parting for the wheels. But among them, one figure caught my attention, his energy pierced me, lingering in a way I could not name. I turned to nce from the window, and there he stood apart from the crowd, his eyes locked on me until we vanished from sight.
