Invitation 45

Five nights ago, Edward had another argument with Macie when he got home. He used her of beingzy for making Sharon bring her meals and having a bad attitude for ignoring his messages.

But, surprisingly, Macie didn’t argue back even once. She simply listened in silence. Instead, it was Sharon who stepped in. She took the me and said that she was the one who had volunteered to bring the meals. Over the next few days, she continued bringing lunch every noon.

    Edward pressed his lips together.

He thought that Macie had been throwing a tantrum for far too long. It went on for so long that he hadpletely run out of patience.

Clearly, he had spoiled her too much to the point where she no longer even knew her ce.

Edward stood up, his expression dark. He was determined to teach her a lesson when he got home that

    evening.

Sharon arrived home first at 5:00 pm and immediately threw the divorce agreement in front of Macie.

Seeing the document, Macie took it without hesitation.

Sharon narrowed her eyes. “What’s the point of just signing the agreement? Isn’t there a divorce cooling- off period? Edward’s bound to find out.”

“You don’t have to worry about that,” Macie replied calmly. “The Fowler family will take care of it. They never approved of me as their daughter–inw in the first ce. Once the signed agreement is in their hands, the rest will be handled ordingly.”

Sharon still wasn’t fully convinced. “So Edward doesn’t even have to be involved?”

“That’s right. By the time he sees it, the divorce will already be final,” Macie exined. “I’ll be done with my part. Now you should start thinking about how you’re going to marry into the Fowler family.”

Sharon clenched her fists and scoffed. “You don’t need to worry about that. I have my own ways. You should be packing your things and getting out of my house.”

“Three days. That’s all I need,” Macie replied. “I’ll pack up and be gone after that.”

“Why three days?” Sharon questioned suspiciously. “You’re not trying to stall, are you?”

“You’re overthinking this. I can’t wait to leave,” Macie spat coldly. She turned away and headed back to

    her room.

She nced at the three–day countdown on her phone screen.

She would finally escape from this prison in just three days.

Outside the room, Sharon was still doubtful about Macie’s departure timeline. But then, a sinister smirk appeared on her lips as she thought of a malicious n. 1

“Macie, oh Macie… You’re the one who refuses to leave on your own. You can’t me me for what I’m about to do,” she quietly mused.

Inside the room, Macie looked at the suitcase leaning against the wall. She had already packed most of her things. Now, she just needed to endure the next three days. After that, she would have nothing to do

with Edward or Sharon ever again.

The friendship of their childhood and the unspoken crush of her youth–it would alle to an end.

Suddenly, a thought struck her. She had left something behind with Sharon.

Turning around, she stepped out of her room and went to the living room.

She looked at the woman sitting on the couch and expressionlessly demanded, “Give me the ne I gave you when we were kids at the orphanage.”

Sharon turned her head. After a brief pause, she remembered and sneered. “That cheap stic thing? You

    actually think I kept it?”

“You…” Macie’s jaw tightened, her fists clenching. “Did you throw away the only thing I got from my

    mother?”

“What else was I supposed to do? Keep it as a lucky charm? It was trash,” Sharon mocked.

A wave of fury surged through Macie’s chest. She stared at the woman in front of her, feeling an overwhelming sense of grief. She had no real hope of retrieving the ne, but hearing Sharon’s words

    still cut deep.

She hated Sharon. But more than that, she hated herself for trusting the wrong person and giving her heart so freely.

Everything happening now was her punishment.

At that moment, the front door unlocked. Edward had returned from work.

“What are you two arguing about?” he asked, frowning. “I could hear you from outside.”

Sharon immediately rushed over, putting on a pitiful expression as she recounted the whole situation. Then, as if ming herself, she lowered her head.

“Macie, it’s just some worthless trinket,” Edward scolded Macie. “Do you really need to be so petty?”
