Chapter 53
For two patients to be rushed in for gas poisoning….
The nurses, now well aware of what might have transpired, cast disgusted looks at the man in question.
While Edward had rushed here in a panic, he was the one who only saved the mistress first when the
ident happened. They didn’t see the point of him pretending to be devoted now that his wife was still
unconscious.
That morning, Edward had taken leave from work and had waited outside the hospital room for an
extended amount of time. He hadn’t even gone to check on Sharon.
Sharon eventually came looking for him. When Edward snapped out of his thoughts, he quickly helped
her take a seat.
“How is May? It’s all my fault. I passed out and didn’t manage to wake her up.” Sharon looked remorseful.
“It’s not your fault. You’re a victim, too,” Edward said.
“Has the cause been investigated? Was there a gas leak?” she asked.
“No. They suspect that the me went out while the gas stove was still on,” Edward said, pressing his lips
together.
That was the report from the property management and repair team. However, by the time they arrived, the stove had been turned off, the windows had been opened, and the kitchen door had been shut,
preventing further gas buildup.
“Did you use the stove before going to bedst night?” Edward asked Sharon.
“No. I didn’t even go into the kitchen,” Sharon replied innocently.
Edward frowned. “Did you see whether the kitchen door was open or closedst night?”
“It was open. I was keeping an eye on May to make sure she didn’t leave, so I stayed in the living room,” Sharon replied.
Edward was momentarily stunned. “You didn’t go back to your room all night?”
Sharon nodded. “I slept on the couch in the living room so that I’d hear if the door lock was touched.”
“Sharon… Why did you do that?” Edward felt a surge of guilt. While he had gone to sleep, Sharon had stayed in the living room to keep watch.
And that was exactly why she had inhaled too much gas and passed out. <fn73a8> Readplete version only at find?novel</fn73a8>
“I’m fine. I just never imagined that there would be a gas leak.” Sharon sighed. “We were out for dinner
After an entire morning, Edward had calmed down from his initial panic. Now, his expression darkened
at Sharon’s words.
Indeed, if no one else had touched the stove, then Macie was the only possible culprit. He wondered if it was simply an ident or a deliberate move by Macie. 1
It seemed that she had poisoned Sharon with gas and nearly killed herself in the process.
Now that he thought about it, Macie had always been willing to harm herself just to hurt others. Given
that nothing like this had ever happened in the past two years, Edward was convinced that she had done it deliberately this time.
His fingers curled into a fist as he red at the hospital room door. He wanted nothing more than to go inside and question her at that moment.
“Ed, May probably just forgot about it. She’s worse off than I am. Don’t be mad at her,” Sharon said,
shaking his arm.
“If she had any basic safety awareness, you wouldn’t have had to suffer. This wasn’t forgetfulness. This was attempted murder!” Edward huffed.
“But May was hurt too. It wasn’t on purpose.” Sharon tried to defend Macie.
“Have you forgotten? When you got burned half a month ago, Macie also ended up with even worse burns, didn’t she?” Edward gritted his teeth. “That was just her ying the victim. She’s ruthless, even to herself.
Sharon lowered her head in silence when she heard that, struggling to find a way to defend Macie. After a long pause, she said hesitantly, “She must be angry that I’m staying at your ce. Could you help me find an apartment? I’ll move out.”
“Move out? No way. You’re staying right where you are!” Edward snapped, still furious. “She promised me that she wouldn’t hurt you again. She even pretended to be noble by refusing to take the ne, but in reality, she was just nning something even worse!”
