Chapter 55
“Miss, if anyone asks if I’m awake, just say that I woke up and fell asleep again,” Macie said.
The nurse looked at her and nodded despite thinking that Edward probably wouldn’t ask.
Macie was in a private hospital room. Shey in bed, staring nkly out the window.
She wanted to leave and go far away from those two despicable people. She couldn’t understand why they still had to torment her when she would be leaving in just three days.
Only three days left. No, two.
She could finally leave tomorrow.
Macie closed her eyes. She had already packed everything. Now, she just wished time would pass faster.
At noon, an unexpected visitor arrived.
It was Nathan.
“Mrs. Fowler, how are you?” Nathan greeted. He brought a fruit basket with him. “Mr. Fowler asked me to check if you were awake.”
Macie remained expressionless and didn’t feel like responding. The mere mention of Edward filled her with hatred. <fn85ac> Newest update provided by </fn85ac>
“As long as you’re okay, Mr. Fowler can rest easy. He’s actually very worried about you,” Nathan added.
Macie sneered at his words. “Worried about me? He wishes I were dead.”
Nathan froze. “How could that be? Mr. Fowler-”
“Enough. I don’t want to hear you making excuses for him. I appreciate you visiting. Thank you,” Macie coldly interrupted.
Nathan hesitated for a few seconds, then told her what Edward had said to him earlier.
While Edward believed that Macie had tried to kill him, Macie was convinced that Edward wanted her dead.
Nathan had no idea what was going on.
“Mrs. Fowler, is there some misunderstanding between you and Mr. Fowler? Maybe you should talk to him directly, or I can pass him a message for you,” Nathan suggested.
Macie’s expression turned even more mocking.
“He really knows how to twist the truth, doesn’t he? using me of intentionally causing the gas leak?”

she spat through gritted teeth. She trembled with anger.
“If he thinks that I’m in the way of his happiness, why didn’t he just agree to a divorce sooner? Why must he kill me? He’s worse than an animal! I must have been blind to ever love him!”
Nathan nervously gulped at her outburst.
After venting her rage, Macie regained someposure. She looked at Nathan and said, “There’s nothing I want to exin to him. He’d still me me even if the truth were right in front of him.
“You can’t wake someone who pretends to be asleep. It’ll all be over tomorrow. There’s no point in arguing anymore. This must be my karma. At least I survived.”
Nathan frowned in confusion. He wondered what she meant when she said that it would be “over
tomorrow“.
“Lastly, don’t say anything to him on my behalf. Don’t even try to exin. Otherwise, you might get
dragged into this. Edward only listens to what he wants to hear,” Macie warned.
Nathan pursed his lips. He sighed silently and left.
Sitting at his desk in his office at Fowler Group, Edward nced at his watch every few minutes.
Nathan had been gone for over 20 minutes.
He was still furious over Macie’s actions in the past two days. Despite that, he avoided confronting her directly and chose to ignore her instead.
He wasn’t sure why. He had every reason to demand answers and even press charges against her for
attempted murder. And yet…
When he thought of the frail, dying figure that he had seen through the hospital room’s ss window… When he thought about how Macie had almost died…
All he could do was stew in his anger, unable tosh out at her.
After all, she had only done this because of jealousy and resentment. Her methods were just extreme.
Yesterday, in his anger, he had refused Sharon’s suggestion to find a new ce to live. But he thought that he should perhaps arrange a different residence for her after she was discharged.
