<b>Chapter </b>56
Edward was deep in thought when a knock on the office door interrupted him. It was Nathan.
“Has she woken up?” Edward asked as soon as Nathan stepped in.
“Yes,” Nathan replied. “I also spoke with the nurse about Mrs. Fowler’s condition. She’s recovering well and no longer needs oxygen, but she’s still easily fatigued.”
Edward showed no reaction, his expression remaining cold and unreadable. He didn’t show the slightest
trace of relief or joy at the news. Nathan observed him for a few moments before turning to leave. But
before he could step out, Edward spoke again.
“Find a ce.”
“A ce?” Nathan paused, puzzled.
“Decent environment, high security, private, and fully furnished.” Edward listed his requirements
sinctly.
Nathan couldn’t help but wonder if Edward was nning to move out with that mistress of his.
“Understood. I’ll start looking,” he responded, nodding.
Just as he reached the door, Edward’s voice came again.
“Did she say anything else?”
Nathan halted, turning his head slightly. “No. Mrs. Fowler is still weak.”
He had debated whether to say more the entire way here. Ultimately, he decided to gauge Edward’s mood
first. But when he saw Edward still clearly furious, he figured that it was pointless. He knew that Edward
wouldn’t listen anyway.
Macie and Edward were family. Eventually, they would have to sit down and talk.
At his desk, Edward scoffed at Nathan’s response. “Weak? Ha. She’s faking it again.”
<b>His </b>voice dripped with sarcasm. “She’s just feeling guilty and afraid to speak. Otherwise, why wouldn’t a normal person exin themselves immediately<b>?</b>”
Nathan sighed. Inwardly, he thought, “Mrs. Fowler really does understand Mr. Fowler’s temper well.”
That afternoon, Sharon arrived at the hospital room. She smirked when she saw Macie lying in bed.
“What a pity. Has Edwarde to see you? He visits me every night. He even brought me flowers and gifts,” she drawled. “We’re only three floors apart. It wouldn’t take him more than a minute to drop by, right?”
Macie slowly turned her head, her expression devoid of emotion. “Was it you or Edward who turned on
the gas?”
Sharon folded her arms and sneered. “Wasn’t it you? Edward and I were out for dinnerst night.”
Seeing how confident and self–righteous Sharon looked, Macie clenched her teeth. “I locked the kitchen door before bed, but it was open in the morning. Also, I’ve been cooking for two years. I wouldn’t make <fna313> ?????? ???? FιndNovel</fna313>
such a basic mistake.”
Her voice turned icy. “Whether it was you or Edward, human life is nothing but a game to you both, isn’t it? Are you disappointed that I didn’t die?”
Sharon blinked innocently. “What are you talking about, May? I don’t understand a single word.”
As long as she refused to admit anything, who could prove what happened that night?
Watching her continue to y innocent, unfazed, and utterly shameless, Macie let out a coldugh and
said, “Oh, I forgot to mention. The house is equipped with security cameras.”
Sharon’s body instantly stiffened, her face draining of color. She was surprised that there were cameras
in Edward’s house.
If that were true, then everything she had done must have been recorded.”
Panic surged through her. Clenching her fists, she forced a smile and said, “May, I just remembered I have something to do. I should get going. Rest well.”
Macie watched Sharon’s hurried retreat, knowing exactly what thetter was rushing off to do–erase the
footage.
But why had Macie told Sharon about the cameras? Why didn’t she simply show Edward the evidence
and clear her name?
