Even if Macie had shown him the evidence, Edward would have defended Sharon. After all, love made one blind. Whatever Sharon did was correct in his eyes, while Macie was someone he loathed and wished
dead.
A bitter smile tugged at Macie’s lips. Two years of devotion, and all she got in return was a death sentence from him.
Meanwhile, Sharon had already taken a cab home and contacted a tech expert. She found that Edward’s studyputer was password–protected and tried entering her birthday.
A secondter, the device was unlocked. Her lips curled into a smug smile. Both Edward’sputer and phone passwords were tied to her. If this wasn’t love, what was?
Sharon instructed the technician to erase the security footage. After thetterpleted the task, she asked, “Is itpletely wiped?”
“Rx. Even the cloud backup is gone,” he assured her.
Satisfied, Sharon let out a relieved hum. She thought, “Macie, you’re as foolish as ever. You practically handed me this information. I wouldn’t have even checked if you hadn’t mentioned the surveince. Did you think that I wouldn’t know Edward’s password? Too bad—every single one of them is my birthday.”
By the time Edward finished work, it was past nine. As usual, he headed to the hospital to apany Sharon, bringing her favoritete–night snacks with him.
“Edward, why don’t you take some up to May? She woke up today,” Sharon suggested.
Edward frowned. “You went to see her?”
“I stopped by this afternoon, but she didn’t seem to want to see me.” Sharon lowered her head, her voice
meek.
“Of course she doesn’t. She can’t even show her face after what she did to you. You’re still suffering from dizziness because of her!” Edward snapped, his anger ring up again.
“But May is pitiful too. You should check on her. I’m sure that she wants to see you,” Sharon coaxed
sweetly.
“No.” Edward’s refusal was firm and immediate. “I’ve already been merciful enough by not pressing charges. She’d be kneeling before you if she had any conscience left. She’d be begging for forgiveness.”
Sharon watched him fume, hiding her satisfaction. She pleaded a little more, knowing that it would only irritate him further, before smoothly changing the subject.
Edward stayed at the hospital until 11. As he stepped into the elevator, he stared at the button for Macie’s floor, pausing for several seconds before pressing for the ground floor instead. Why should he visit such a
venomous woman?
He hadn’t even held her ountable or scolded her. He felt that Macie should be grateful, throwing herself at his feet, begging him not to cast her out. The thought of Macie in tears, pleading with him, made Edward scoff internally.
The next morning, at eight, Macie checked herself out of the hospital. She quietly returned home and packed up all her belongings–her bags from the closet, bedding, water cup, toiletries, towels–everything. Then, she dumped it all into the garbage downstairs, erasing every trace of her presence.
The divorce papers were prepared. The copy for Edward was left behind, while the original had already been mailed to Yosef at the Fowler residence. The contract was fulfilled, setting her free.
Macie stood at the apartmentplex entrance with only a small suitcase and a bag. The security guard chuckled and asked, “Heading off on a trip?”
If only he knew that her luggage was all she had left. She thought that it appeared pathetic and barren. It
was as if the past two years had just been a temporary stay.
The car soon arrived, and she left. <fne1ab> ?? ??? ???? ?? ???? ???? ???????s, ????s? ??s?? f?ndnovel</fne1ab>
She cast onest nce at the ce she had lived in for two years, bidding a final farewell. 1
Loving Edward had been the biggest mistake of Macie’s life and her greatest regret. Tilting her head back, she gazed at the sky. The sun broke through the clouds.
A new life awaited her.
