Invitation 71

Edward’s brows furrowed even deeper at Alice’s words. He sternly rified, “Ms. Hart, please watch your words. Don’t make baseless usations.”

Alice found his reaction amusing. “Oh? Then why are you two holding hands? I even saw the trending news this morning.”

Edward nced down, realizing that Sharon had linked arms with him. He immediately shook her off.

Sharon nearly ground her teeth in frustration, though she kept a smile on her face. Nevertheless, she shot a re at Alice, the troublemaker who was stirring things up.

“Trending news is nothing but rumors, Ms. Hart. You shouldn’t believe everything you read online,” Edward said, his tone growing colder.

Alice let out a scoff. She thought that Edward was clearly more than just slightly drunk. Otherwise, how else could he say something so self–righteous when the evidence was right in front of him?

“Your little sweetheart is wearing the nine–million–dor ne, isn’t she? Next time, if you want to deny something, at least clean up the evidence first,” she mocked.

Edward’s eyes immediately snapped to Sharon’s neck. His hand shot forward, about to snatch the

    ne off her.

“Ed, what are you doing? You personally gave this to mest night!” Sharon shrieked, stepping back and clutching her neck protectively.

“Impossible. That was a gift for my wife. You don’t deserve to wear it,” Edward growled. He moved forward again to reim it.

Sharon dodged his movement. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she shot a sharp look at Alice, the instigator who was watching the drama unfold. She wondered why thetter was targeting her.

“Miss, I don’t even know you. Why are you so set on making things difficult for me?” Sharon asked in a pitiful tone.

Alice crossed her arms, unimpressed. “And which eye of yours saw me targeting you? I’m just stating

    facts.” (19

She eyed Sharon disdainfully. She found this level of maniptive act to be pathetic. Only a fool like

Edward would fall for someone like this.

“You’re obviously trying to create problems between me and Edward!” Sharon used.

Alice had been ready to fire back, but a better idea crossed her mind. Smirking, she said, “Of course I am. Who knows? Maybe I’ll have to deal with you in the future.

“Oh, by the way, did you know? My dad once nned for me to marry Edward.”

Sharon stiffened at those words. Just by looking at Alice’s refined outfit and demeanor, it was clear that she came from wealth. And judging by the way she spoke to Edward, they seemed familiar. Sharon wondered if Alice’s ims were indeed true.

Sensing Sharon’s hesitation, Alice smirked in satisfaction and turned to leave. As she walked away, she threw out onest remark. “Edward, you low–ss scumbag, I’m telling your grandfather about your affairs!”

    Half–drunk, Edwardtched onto one key point. “I didn’t cheat! I didn’t!”

Alice couldn’t care less about a drunkard’s protests. She thought that a married man who was tangled up with a mistress was garbage, a scumbag, and utterly disgraceful.

Herment about marrying Edward had just been to mess with Sharon. Even if every man on earth died, she would refuse to touch Edward.

Upon further thought, she then wondered who Edward’s wife was. She pitied the woman and figured that she must’ve been unfortunate enough to end up married to him.

With that thought, Alice quickened her pace.

She couldn’t believe that Macie wasn’t even waiting for her. After all, this was peak drama. How could Macie miss out on such a spectacle?

Outside, in the za, Alice spotted Macie’s figure in the distance. She raised a hand and jogged toward

    her.

Just then, Macie turned around and was about to signal Alice to hurry up when she suddenly spotted Edward stepping out of the restaurant from the other direction.

Panic shot through her. Without thinking, she crouched down and bent low, using the parked cars as cover as she quickly moved away.
