Edward stared nkly at the door, his mind racing. He couldn’t understand the meaning behind Nathan’s advice to stop lying to himself. He wondered when he had ever not been truthful.

And regret? What was there to regret? He made decisions, and he stuck to them.

Edward grabbed the file on his desk, trying to force his focus onto the words in front of him. Unfortunately, he couldn’t concentrate. So, he tossed it aside and ced his phone directly in the center of the table to avoid missing any calls.

But the next few hours only brought calls from his team, not from the one he had hoped for.

Meanwhile, Macie was hanging out with Alice that afternoon. They swatched lipsticks and spritzed

perfumes on their wrists. They’d already picked out a new handbag and some jewelry and were now

sitting in their favorite restaurant. <fn2d02> The source of th?s content is fι?dnοvel</fn2d02>

When her phone buzzed on the table, Macie nced at it, then flipped it over.

“Who is it? Why aren’t you picking up?” Alice asked.

“Just a telemarketer,” Macie said, shrugging it off with a smile.

But it wasn’t a telemarketer. It was the Fowler family’sndline. They’d been calling since 2:00 pm, and

Maciepletely ignored it. She’d changed her number recently, so only a handful of people had it. She

didn’t need to answer to know why they were calling.

The Fowler family could find her new number easily. And as she expected, they’d followed up with a text. The text read, “Mr. Fowler Senior would like to speak with you.”

But Macie didn’t think there was anything left to say. The divorce papers had already been delivered, and Yosef knew what to do. The two–year agreement was over. She’d held up her end of the deal.

At the Fowler residence, Nn reported, “Mr. Fowler Senior, Mrs. Fowler still isn’t answering.”

Yosef sighed and leaned back in his chair. “She’s changed her number. It’s a clean break.”

“Has Edward called?” he asked after a moment.

Nn shook his head. “No, sir.”

“So, he rekindled things with that woman again, hasn’t he?” Yosef asked sternly.

Nn hesitated, unsure what to say, as Edward had specifically warned him not to speak too freely in front of Yosef.

“There’s no point hiding it from me. Last time, he imed that he was just helping someone out of a tough spot. But this time? A nine–million–dor ne? How will he exin that? What a mess. He doesn’t appreciate the treasure right beside him,” Yosefmented, shaking his head.

Macie hadn’t mentioned the divorce agreement previously. But this time, she had sent over the signed divorce papers herself. The signature was undoubtedly Edward’s. Yosef figured that Edward had probably wanted this divorce for a while now, which was why he hadn’t called.

Yosef sighed and replied, “Transfer 50 million dors to Macie’s ount. Consider itpensation for the two years she spent by Edward’s side. She left with nothing–not a single penny. What a foolish girl.”

Nn nodded and left to carry out the order.

Meanwhile, at the Fowler Group’s CEO’s office, Edward nced at the clock. It was already 6:00 pm.

He’d finished all the documents on his desk and was now slipping on his suit jacket, ready to leave. Just

as he stood, there was a knock at the door.

Nathan entered, carrying a stack of proposals and contracts that needed his review. “Mr. Fowler, these are the documents you’ll need to handle tonight-” he began to say. However, he stopped short when he saw Edward with his jacket on, clearly preparing to leave.

“They can wait until tomorrow,” Edward said curtly before leaving.

    Nathan was speechless.

Edward took the elevator to the parking garage, got into his car, and drove off. Almost instinctively, he

found himself heading toward the hospital.

His mind wandered as he drove, his thoughts swirling in a chaotic haze. By the time he snapped out of it, he was already pulling up to Medford Hospital, where Macie worked.

Therge sign reading “Medford Hospital” loomed to his side. It was only 800 miles from his home.
