Chapter 1248: Chapter 1248: This Is Xiang Yu’s Chance
Back at the elderly man’s vi, he originally intended to be polite to Xiang Yu, hoping that he wouldn’t feel constrained after settling in.
But Xiang Yu was naturally at ease and, before the elderly man could speak, boldly sat on the sofa and even asked the staff to bring some fruit.
The elderly man simply smiled at Xiang Yu’s behavior and didn’t say much.
Gao Mantang, on the other hand, frowned and kept signaling to Xiang Yu with his eyes, hoping he wouldn’t cause trouble.
Xiang Yu pretended not to notice and made himself at home, eating and drinking as he pleased.
The elderly man prepared a room for Xiang Yu, hoping he’d stay the night.
Xiang Yu was unapologetic and went straight to the room to wash up and then went to sleep.
The next morning, Xiang Yu woke up early and started his morning exercise. He hadn’t trained for several days, and his body felt a bit rusty.
When Xiang Yu finished ap and returned, he saw the elderly man slowly practicing Tai Chi there.
The elderly man hadn’t expected Xiang Yu to be up so early and appreciatively nodded, saying, “Xiang Yu, this habit is good; few people are as diligent as you nowadays.”
Xiang Yu, as straightforward as ever, replied, “Promising young men like me are rare now.”
The elderly man was directly amused by Xiang Yu’s words; this young man was really not modest.
But seeing Xiang Yu’s young and strong physique, the elderly man couldn’t help but feel nostalgic; youth is indeed wonderful.
After breakfast, Gao Mantang somewhat reluctantly said to the elderly man, “Chief, I’ve finished my business, and I’m prepared to leave today.”
The elderly man was clearly a bit reluctant and said, “You’re leaving so soon, you heartless boy.”
Given the good rtionship between the two, they spoke without reservation. Yet, Gao Mantang always respected his old chief, so he chuckled, saying, “I’lle visit you when I have the chance.”
“Oh, give it up! You’re about to hold a great-grandchild. When will you have time to visit me?” the elderly manughed.
Gao Mantang alsoughed and didn’t say much more, then looked at Xiang Yu and said, “Take care of yourself.”
Xiang Yu just nodded and replied, “I’ll go back with you.”
When the elderly man heard Xiang Yu wanted to leave too, he waved him off saying, “You can’t go; there are still many things I need you to stay for.”
“You’re talking about Commander Cao’s matter; you all can handle this yourselves. I want to go back,” Xiang Yu replied bluntly.
The elderly man red and said, “You’re a soldier; you should behave like one.”
Xiang Yu indifferently said, “I’ve be a deserter, still a soldier.”
The elderly man knew Xiang Yu had suffered grievances and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll clear your name. You stay, and I’ll ensure justice for you.”
Gao Mantang also nodded to Xiang Yu, signaling for him to stay.
He knew his old chief well; the chief rarely asked people to stay, and he used to have a fierce temper. People around him feared him because he could explode with anger at any moment. But judging from the current behavior, he seemed to admire Xiang Yu.
Seeing this, Xiang Yu could only helplessly nod and say, “Alright, I’ll stay for the time being.”
Just as Gao Mantang was preparing to leave, several cars stopped outside, and a middle-aged man stepped out of one.
Gao Mantang recognized this person was the elderly man’s son and hurriedly stepped forward to salute.
The middle-aged man merely nodded at Gao Mantang and then went to the elderly man, asking, “Dad, why did you urgently call me over?”
“Stand aside for a moment,” said the elderly man, then turned to Gao Mantang, saying somewhat reluctantly, “Be careful on your way; remember to visit me often.”
Gao Mantang also nodded, saying, “Don’t worry, Chief, I’ll definitelye see you whenever I have time.”
The elderly man also nodded and watched Gao Mantang leave before turning directly and returning to the vi.
The middle-aged man nced at Xiang Yu and followed him inside.
Of course, Xiang Yu knew the middle-aged man, but he hadn’t expected the elderly man to be the father of the middle-aged man. At this moment, waves of shock surged in his heart, as the middle-aged man was the highest-ranking officer he’d ever met.
The elderly man sat there without a care, ignoring the middle-aged man.
While the middle-aged man sat beside the elderly man, pouring him water, he said, “Dad, I still have a lot to do; if there’s something, just say it quickly.”
The elderly man nced at the middle-aged man with some displeasure, evidently unhappy about his infrequent visits, andined, “Mantang is going to hold a great-grandchild, yet I don’t even have a grandchild.”
The middle-aged man justughed it off and said some meaningless words.
The elderly man finally sighed and said, “I called you over today because there’s something I need to discuss.”
He then talked about the recent developments, and the middle-aged man listened, stunned and half-open mouthed, finally mming the table with anger in his eyes.
“His name is Xiang Yu; he knows the whole story. He used to be in the Special Forces and has suffered a lot. You must ensure justice for him. Moreover, his physical condition is excellent; anyone can see he’s a talent. You should utilize him,” the elderly man said, greatly admiring Xiang Yu.
At this moment, Xiang Yu was standing straight far away, only sensing the middle-aged man’s gaze sweeping over him, unaware of what was being said.
“I understand; I’ll handle this,” the middle-aged man assured.
The elderly man quickly nodded and gestured for Xiang Yu toe closer.
Xiang Yu walked over and saluted the middle-aged man.
Seeing Xiang Yu settle down, the elderly manughed and said, “No need to be so tense. Have a seat.”
With an awkward smile, Xiang Yu sat down directly.
“I’ve heard about your situation; your identity is now reinstated. You can return to the Special Forces, and I’ll arrange everything for you,” the middle-aged man said expressionlessly.
From the middle-aged man, Xiang Yu could sense an aura of someone in a high position for a long time.
Xiang Yu was deeply moved; it had been three years. He had been mingling in the city for three years, and every day he’d hoped to return to his unit during those years.
Now, that wish had finallye true, and his eyes couldn’t help but get wet.
“Thank you,” Xiang Yu said very respectfully, “but I don’t want to return for the time being.”
Xiang Yu’s words surprised both the elderly man and the middle-aged man.
“This is your opportunity,” the middle-aged man said sternly.
Xiang Yu nodded; he naturally knew it was a rare opportunity, but he had many obligations in the city that he couldn’t ignore.
“Commander Cao hasn’t been captured. If he escapes the country, you won’t be able to apprehend him abroad,” Xiang Yu said, looking at the middle-aged man and continued, “I’m currently free; I can do it.”
The elderly man nodded with great relief, recognizing Xiang Yu’s dedication.
The middle-aged man casually smirked, a look of disdain in his eyes, and said, “There’s no need for you to worry about this; I’ll send someone to capture him.”
Xiang Yu’s eyes were resolute; even though the other was of high rank, he wouldn’t waver on his conviction. Until Commander Cao was caught, he wouldn’t return to the unit…
