Chapter 1249: 1249: A Family That Cannot Be Reunited

Chapter 1249: Chapter 1249: A Family That Cannot Be Reunited

The middle-aged man saw the persistence in Xiang Yu’s eyes and said directly, “There’s nothing I can do if you don’t seize the opportunity yourself. Now you’re free, and I’ve granted you the qualification for a normal discharge.”

The old man looked somewhat sternly at the middle-aged man. Although thetter was his son, his son had his own decisions, and he did not want to interfere.

“Thank you.” Xiang Yu expressed his gratitude, “I have a few friends who were also persecuted by Commander Cao and his people. I hope you can help clear their names as well.”

The middle-aged man stood up somewhat impatiently, then said, “I will investigate this matter thoroughly. As long as those people have been treated unfairly, I will bring justice to them.”

He stood up and started walking towards the outside, saying as he walked, “Dad, I’m leaving now. There are many things to handle. This matter you mentioned is very important, and I will investigate it thoroughly.”

The old man saw the middle-aged man heading outside and got up angrily, shouting, “You heartless one, you want to leave just as you returned, without spending a bit of time with me.”

The middle-aged man waved and walked out the door, leaving the old man standing there somewhat deste.

Xiang Yu sat there a bit awkwardly, understanding that the middle-aged man was indeed very busy and couldn’t spend much time apanying the old man.

The old man sighed and then looked at Xiang Yu, saying, “Your choices determine your destiny. I hope you consider carefully. Come find me if anything arises.”

Xiang Yu hurriedly thanked him, knowing that the elderly man held a high position and having such a son might indeed help him in the future.

“Stay here tonight and leave another day.” The old man said, looking at Xiang Yu.

He usually felt very lonely here alone and now wanted to pull Xiang Yu into some conversation.

Xiang Yu was eager to establish this connection, so he said, “Sure, do you y chess, old sir? I’ll keep youpany.”

The old man, hearing this, became energized and said grandly, “I’m not boasting, but no one in this military district is my match…”

Gao Mantang was driving towards City Number Seven by himself, having reported everything to the former leader and rescued Xiang Yu. The rest was no longer his concern.

He felt relieved knowing Xiang Yu was not a bad person but a Special Forces soldier.

In a good mood, he picked up the phone to call his grandson.

Upon receiving grandad’s call, Gao Zhitao hurriedly asked, “Grandad, where have you been? Everyone’s worried about you.”

Gao Mantang happily replied, “I went to handle important matters.”

Gao Zhitao heard how pleased his grandfather was and quickly asked, “How’s Xiang Yu’s situation?”

“Take a guess?” Gao Mantang replied excitedly.

Gao Zhitao was speechless. His grandfather, at such an age, was now behaving like a child.

“Have you already released Xiang Yu?” Gao Zhitao spected.

“Of course. When your grandad’s involved, nothing’s impossible.” Gao Mantang boasted proudly.

Gao Zhitao became ted upon hearing this and said, “I’ve prepared a celebration dinner for you; when you return, we can enjoy a few drinks as a family.”

Gao Mantang was filled with enthusiasm and said, “Alright, wait for me, I’ll be back soon.”

After hanging up the phone, he was in a great mood. Being able to do something for Xiang Yu was a way to repay Xiang Yu’s kindness to his family.

Gao Mantang hummed a tune as he waited at a traffic light at an intersection; suddenly, he felt sharp pain in his chest.

He looked at his chest and saw it was stained red with blood.

A bullet had struck his chest.

Gao Mantang was a soldier, an experienced veteran. He realized that there must be a sniper nearby who had hit him.

Feeling his consciousness starting to fade, he took out his phone and dialed that familiar number.

At this moment, the old man was ying chess with Xiang Yu.

“Xiang Yu, you can’t cheat. Your knight has been captured.” The old man argued.

“I didn’t see that, so it doesn’t count.” Xiang Yu insisted.

Just then, the old man’s phone rang. He didn’t want to answer it as they were at a critical point in the game, unwilling to be distracted.

Besides, now retired, he spent all his time ying, with nothing particrly important to bother him.

After several rings, Xiang Yu worried that there might be something urgent. He picked up the phone, seeing the name ‘Mantang’ disyed.

Realizing it was Gao Mantang calling, Xiang Yu quickly handed the phone to the old man.

The old man took the call and said directly, “Mantang, I’m ying chess with Xiang Yu now, let’s hang up if it’s nothing important.”

Holding the phone, he contemted his next chess move, finally making it.

Only then did he realize Gao Mantang had not spoken.

“Mantang, what’s wrong?” The old man sensed something amiss and asked.

“Sir, forgive me, but I can’te see you anymore.” Gao Mantang’s voice was very weak.

The old man jumped up from the sofa upon hearing this.

“Mantang, what’s happened? Where are you now?” His hands trembled as he spoke.

Xiang Yu sensed something was off and stood up.

“Sir, actually, it was me who wet the bed back then; I never told you, having let Lao Liu take the me for many years.” Gao Mantang spoke weakly.

The old man’s eyes turned red, and he said, “I’ve known about all of that; now quickly tell me your location.”

He asked repeatedly, but there was no sound from Gao Mantang’s side of the phone, just the constant ring of car horns.

The old man stood still, his phone dropping to the ground, nearly stumbling. Xiang Yu rushed over to support him.

“Mantang is gone,” the old man said with red eyes.

Xiang Yu had guessed what had happened and quickly helped the old man to sit on the sofa.

At that moment, the voice from the fallen phone caught their attention.

Xiang Yu rushed to pick up the phone.

“Hello, who is this?” Xiang Yu asked.

“Are you the family of the phone’s owner? He has been shot, and we are en route to the hospital.” Someone on the other end said.

“Where is he?” Xiang Yu hurriedly asked.

After getting the address, Xiang Yu and the old man swiftly headed to the hospital.

Xiang Yu drove, speeding all the way, drawingints from many.

When the duo arrived at the hospital, they rushed straight to the emergency room.

Gao Mantang had note out yet, so Xiang Yu picked up the phone to call Gao Zhitao.

Meanwhile, Gao Zhitao, his father, and his uncle were at home preparing the dinner event. They were waiting for Gao Mantang to return for a celebration as the family hadn’t been this joyful in quite some time…
