?Chapter 1379:
After a beat, her tone softened. “And honestly? You were standing up for my husband. That matters. I should be the one thanking you, so stop beating yourself up—you did the right thing.”
Dexter froze, still reeling, but when his eyes met Dani’s, something in his chest eased. Her words cut through his guilt like sunlight through fog.
She offered him a knowing smile. “Get back to work. Don’t waste another second thinking about it.”
Without another word, she turned and climbed the stairs. Dexter stayed rooted in ce, muttering to himself, “Of course she’s the boss. She always knows how to say just the right thing.”
Carol followed Dani up the stairs, crossing her arms tightly. Her gaze was sharp and probing. “Have you really forgotten? You just called Cedric your husband. But you once said you’d send him home once the dust settled.”
The wind had long since calmed. Yet Cedric remained, with no hint of leaving the country.
Dani offered a serene, unreadable smile as she stepped into her office. Without missing a beat, she instructed, “Tell Dexter this: any man trying to worm his way into thepany with a hidden agenda—like Alexander—doesn’t even deserve an interview.”
Carol clicked her tongue sharply as she left. “You’re spoiling him way too much,” she muttered.
Later that evening, Dani arrived at the banquet with Carol trailing behind. Cedric had asked to apany her, but she’d gently refused, citing his lingering cold and warning him not to push himself.
When they entered the grand ballroom, Hamilton was already inside, proudly introducing his guests. “Everyone, meet our newest project manager, Alexander Bet.”
As Dani stepped forward, Alexander spotted her immediately. He arched a brow and lifted his ss in a casual salute, but Dani didn’t spare him so much as a nce.
Hamilton scoffed under his breath. “See? The guy’s delusional. She couldn’t care less.”

Before the words had fully left his lips, Alexander was making his way toward her. “Dani, you look breathtaking tonight. May I have this dance?”
Hardly had he finished when the lights in the venue abruptly dimmed. A hush fell over the crowd as two spotlights red to life, sweeping dramatically across the room before locking in perfect unison on Dani and Alexander. Murmurs rippled through the audience, the tension palpable.
Delighted by the theatrics, Alexander stepped forward and extended his hand. Dani’s lips curved into a soft, unreadable smile. Then, with a graceful pivot, she reached for the hand of a woman standing nearby and pressed it firmly into Alexander’s outstretched palm. The woman, who’d been watching him all evening, gasped in surprise but offered no resistance. On cue, the music swelled.
Dani backed away, her heels clicking as she cleared the dance floor withposed finality. Stunned, Alexander hesitated, but the woman now holding his hand tightened her grip, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
Hamilton’s secretary, hoping to capture the moment, fumbled for his camera, only to realize his shot had been spoiled.
