I have been around the empire twice. The first time was when I saved Blue’s brother, and the second time was when I did what my father hated the most. Have him cremated and ced his remains in the Werewolf Memorial Hall. That way, there would be no peace for him.
But tonight, I am heading toward a ce I have never known, only heard of.
She is sweet. She is strong. And most importantly, she is steadfast. I would have worried too much to leave her behind, but the fact that my two sisters are with her keeps my mind at rest.
Riding toward the sunrise caught up with us when we arrived at the loneliestne I have ever seen. My horse skidded to a stop, and my breath hitched with it.
Chantel, riding behind me, dismounted immediately to check my horse. Then he paused, ncing around. The sudden cold breeze was mysterious.
“What’s wrong?” a voice came from behind, but I didn’t pay attention.
Moon, they call him that, lives in the same house as Zephyrine. He means a lot to her, and she to him, enough that he is willing toe this far.
“Your Majesty, look,” Moon said again, and I obeyed this time.
They say the Empire Grove is at the end of the world, but to me, it seems located here, where the whispers of residents refuses to bless us. This loneliest path we’vee across since leaving the town and packs behind so long ago.
I look ahead and see nothing but a storm brewing. A cold chill runs down my spine. It’s not just a storm, it’s a warning. My beast can feel it.
“It’s the Empire Grove. I’m moving in,” Moon said suddenly, kicking his horse into motion. I swiftly block his way.
“It’s not the Empire Grove. It’s an illusion,” I mutter under my breath, keeping my gaze down so I won’t see his death or the sorrow he will endure, but he is adamant.
“Get out of my way. I’m going to get the cure!” he charges ahead, and my horse races after his,
Gradually, a buildinges into view. Arge shining castle. Moon stops his horse before it and dismounts hurriedly to enter, but I am swift.
I grab his arm and push him away just in time, taking the piercing hit from a spiky branch instead,
He steps back in horror as blood drips from my chest.
Chantel arrives at that moment, eyes wide. He dismounts and rushes to me, pulling out the branch as Silence falls.
“I… I’m sorry,” I heard Moon apologize but I ignored him. I nce down at my chest. It has already healed and the pain is gone.

Gently, I walked toward Moon, and I felt him go still as I stopped before him. Slowly, he looked up into my eyes, and I paused, letting it happen. I let myself take in the misery, the sorrow, the longing… and finally, the date and time of his death.
After a few seconds, I took a step back, feeling dizzy,
“Stay here,” I tell him, then enter the castle. He rushes after me, leaving me no choice but to signal Chantel.
My bodyguard pulls him back just long enough for me to say.
“You will die ten minutes from now if you step into the castle. You can go in if you doubt me.”
Immediately, my strength wanes. My beasts, especially the demon, weaken, and I feel like sinking but I hold

on.

Gritting my teeth, I stepped into the castle, only for the surroundings to evaporate and transform into the Lycan Kingdom.
Right as I struck my first kill just at the foot of the ck tower. I know this is an illusion. This is how the grove wanted to toy with me. A mirage, creeping into my deepest, ugliest memories.
I paused where I stood, looking around and there he was. My younger self, knife in hand, blood everywhere, a dying man at my feet.
My father had whispered into my ears, and I had done exactly as he instructed. What he told me was the “best way” to protect my sisters.
I lowered my gaze, walking ahead into the ck tower. When I pushed open the door, the scene shifted again to the bedchamber where I had been groomed.
I froze at the doorway, staring at the older woman my father had hired.
“Teach him what sex means so he won’t be distracted by it when he grows older,” had been his order. My
innocence was stolen.
I averted my eyes and stepped out of the bedchamber, when the sound of flesh meeting flesh to echo through the air.
The environment dissolved once more, returning me to the scene of my nanny’s death. A woman I had called mother, and whom I had killed with my own hands.
I looked away quickly, unable to meet the horror in her eyes, lying there in the dirt, bleeding from multiple stabs.
When everyonebeled me a monster, when everyone abandoned me, she had been the only one to ensure I survived as a pup. And what did I repay her with? Death.
I turned away and continued walking, only for the environment to shift again. This time, a doory ahead. I was no longer in the Lycan Kingdom.
Slowly, I approached and opened it and There it was. The cure. One single petal hovered in the air, bathed in sunlight.
I swallowed hard, moving forward to take it but then I felt the shift in the air.

“I should have known you’d never amount to any good,” my father’s voice slithered through. “I should have driven a de into your demonic heart the moment you were born.”
I set my jaw. Those were the same words he loved repeating.
“No one will ever love you, Lycannar. You are a man, a Lycan, and a demon. You belong neither fully to the demon realm nor to the Shifter empire. The woman you’re trying to save… she has a fated mate. You think that’s a coincidence?”
“Zephyrine is mine, Father,” I muttered under my breath. I reached again for the flower but his mocking chuckle filled the air.
“You saw her holding his hands. She is still drawn to him. You will only ever be useful for dangerous quest, just like you are for war in the demon realm. No one will like you or ept you, Lycannar. You will grow without aging, rotting quietly and sorrowfully in your tower while she chooses her mate, marries, has pups, and lives happily.”
His voice grew louder as I moved toward the petal, plucking it from its branch.
Immediately, the world evaporated, and I found myself standing on the lonely path again. Chnatel was ahead, Moon too.
The castle had vanished but then again I knew it was only an illusion. I must have seen things that weren’t truly there, but… the words… were they bluff, or would they trulye to pass?
