Chapter 42
Edward went to the kitchen, fiddled around, and ended up heating up the leftover mashed potatoes.
He was surprised to find that it tasted pretty good. Perhaps it was because Macie had cooked those potatoes. Everything she cooked always had a sweet and fragrant taste.
The next morning, Macie woke up early and immediately noticed that half of the mashed potatoes were gone. She frowned, trying to recall if she had identally thrown some outst night when she was tossing the leftovers.
Toozy to think further, she gave up on making a mashed potato egg skillet casserole and instead fried some eggs and bacon.
Edward woke up early just to have a good breakfast. However, he frowned when he saw the simple meal on the table.
“Why aren’t we having mashed potato egg skillet casserole?” he asked.
“There weren’t enough potatoes,” Macie replied expressionlessly.
Edward froze for a second, recalling how he had devoured themst night. Feeling guilty, he didn’t dare to admit it. “Then just fry up whatever’s left for me,” he said.
Macie was speechless but still went to the kitchen to cook up two eggs with lightly seasoned peas. Edward ate everything, including the bread and bacon.
“I’m heading out. For lunch, I want garlic shrimp, balsamic–zed spare ribs, and beef stew,” Edward said as he reached the door. After speaking, he paused for two seconds before finally opening the door.
As the lock clicked shut, he pressed his lips together in silence. He just couldn’t bring himself to say the words “thank you.”
Macie was tidying up the dishes when she looked up and met Sharon’s gaze.
Sharon was leaning against the wall when she mocked, “Being a housekeeper isn’t easy, huh? You’re up earlier than roosters but sleepingter than dogs.”
She then sneered. “Since you seem to love it so much, why don’t I hire you again when Ed and I get married?”
Macie met her gaze head–on, her expression icy as she spoke. “There’s no need for you to make me your target. Edward and I are getting divorced soon.”
“Who’d believe that? Someone like you wouldn’t just let go of a great man like Edward,” Sharon scoffed.
Macie didn’t reply. Instead, she went into her room and returned with a document.
Sharon hesitated for a moment when she saw therge, bolded title on the first page.
“It’s a divorce agreement,” Macie said. “I’ve already signed it. Just get him to sign. The sooner it’s done,
the sooner I’ll be gone.”
Sharon took the document and flipped straight to thest page. As expected, Macie had already signed it. She continued skimming through the contents. <fnbd32> For original chapters go to FindN0vel</fnbd32>
Knowing exactly what Sharon was looking for, Macie went straight to the point. “I’m leaving with nothing. I don’t want a single penny from him. You don’t have to worry.”
Sharon scoffed, crossing her arms. “In that case, return everything Edward’s grandfather and parents gave you. All those are supposed to be mine.”
“You’re being too optimistic. The Fowler family never liked me. I never received any money or gifts from
them,” Macie replied indifferently.
Naturally, the initial ten million didn’t count as it was part of the arranged marriage agreement.
“I don’t believe you.” Sharon’s eyes were filled with doubt. “Your scheme was why Mr. Fowler Senior forced Edward to marry you, no?”
“Believe whatever you want. You’ve already searched through everything in my room,” Macie said as she turned to clean up the dishes. “As for that agreement, if you don’t want him to sign it, then forget it. If I hand it over, he’ll refuse to divorce just likest time.”
Sharon clenched the document in her hand as she watched Macie disappear into the kitchen. She recalled Edward’s furious reaction thest time Macie brought up divorce.
It was midday. At Fowler Group, Edward checked the time every ten minutes. He was waiting for Macie to bring him lunch.
However, she still hadn’t shown up even past noon.
Unable to wait any longer, he reached for his phone to call her. Just as he was about to dial, the office door opened.
“Macie, why are youte-” Edward looked up andined, only to freeze for a second. “Sharon? What are you doing here?”
