Gritting her teeth in silence, Macie red at the deranged man before her.
A rabid dog, a manic lunatic, aplete psychopath–none of those words seemed sufficient to describe
Edward.
The door was locked, reinforced with two extra security locks, and Edward himself stood guard beside it,
refusing to budge.
Macie turned back to her room, choosing to ignore the deranged man entirely.
Edward’s expression softened slightly when he saw her enter her room. Momentster, a box was thrown
out of the room. He clenched his teeth in frustration but made no move to pick it up.
After the noise settled, Sharon carefully opened the door of the guest room and stepped out.
Spotting the ne on the floor, she picked it up, then turned her gaze to Edward standing by the door. She approached him and uttered, her tone gentle and considerate, “Ed… You must have misunderstood May. She loves you so much, after all.”
“Misunderstood?” Edward let out an angry scoff. “For two years, she hasn’t socialized or contacted
anyone. What exactly could I be misunderstanding?”
“Well… you didn’t catch her in the act either…” Sharon murmured.
“If I had caught them, that bastard would already be dead!” Edward’s expression turned vicious.
Sharon studied him. Even though she knew that Edward had feelings for Macie, and his rage stemmed from jealousy, she still asked softly, “Are you… jealous?”
Edward froze, his expression stiff for a few seconds before he hardened his tone, saying, “Ridiculous!
She’s not even worthy! I’m just protecting my dignity as a man! No man would tolerate this!”
Sharon sneered inwardly. Even though she could see right through him, she chose not to expose the truth.
She had to im Edward before he realized his true feelings for Macie. She could secure a position in the
Fowler family as long as she had his child. But first, she needed to get rid of Macie.
With careful words, she continued to soothe Edward, coaxing him to shower and sleep. She even volunteered to guard the door, reassuring him that she wouldn’t let Macie leave.
It was already past midnight. Edward had work the following day. Seeing Sharon’s determination, he finally relented and returned to his bedroom.
However, he tossed and turned in bed. His mind was consumed with thoughts of who the unknown “lover “was. He wondered if it had happened while Macie was hospitalized.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. But first, he would find and destroy that bastard. Then, he would keep Macie locked up in the house forever.
Meanwhile, Sharon entered the kitchen, turned on the gas stove without lighting it, and heated some
water. 1
A cruel, twisted smile spread across her lips.
Edward finally fell asleep at 2:00 am.
Three hourster, he was jolted awake by frantic knocking.
When he opened the door, he found Sharon standing there. 1
“Ed… I feel dizzy… I can’t breathe…” she gasped, her breathingbored. She then copsed into his arms.
“Sharon? Sharon!” Edward shouted in panic. He was now fully awake.
He frowned when he caught the strange scent in the air. Without thinking a second longer, he carried Sharon out of the apartment and rushed her to the hospital.
Inside the small guest room, Macie was also awakened by the noise. It was nearly her usual wake–up time, so she got out of bed, intending to wash up.
But the moment she opened the door, an rming smell hit her.
It was… a gas leak!
She rushed to the kitchen, only to find the smell growing stronger.
The stove burners were off, but the gas valve was wide open.
She quickly shut it off, opened the windows, and closed the kitchen door before heading toward the front
door.
However, the living room was already filled with gas. Even though she tried to hold her breath, her body was still weak from her previous hospitalization. Dizziness and nausea overwhelmed her instantly.
Using thest of her strength, she managed to reach the door before copsing.
Just before she lost consciousness, a chilling thought crossed her mind.
She had definitely turned off the gasst night. So, how did it leak?
It wasn’t carelessness on her part.
Moreover, Edward and Sharon had escaped so quickly without even warning her.
The conclusion was clear.
