Chapter 51

Edward drove Sharon to the hospital.

After a round of examinations in the emergency room, Sharony on the hospital bed with her eyes

    closed in difort.

“Doctor, what happened to her? She only said she felt dizzy and unwell before fainting,” Edward asked.

“Her vital signs are normal, and her heart rate is stable. It seems that she inhaled a small amount of gas, which caused her dizziness,” the doctor replied. <fn88a7> For more chapters visit F?nd-Novel</fn88a7>

Edward froze for a moment at the mention of gas. He wondered if that strange smell he noticed when

opening the door was natural gas.

“An ident at this hour is most likely due to a gas leak. You should report it immediately and have it inspected. If too much gas umtes, it could lead to an explosion,” the doctor warned seriously.

Hearing the word “explosion“, Edward suddenly remembered something.

“Macie! Macie is still at home!”

As soon as the words left his mouth, he bolted for the exit. But just then, a–weak cough came from the hospital bed.

    “Ed…”

Edward hesitated and turned to see Sharon reaching out to him.

    “I… I feel so awful…”

Hearing her cry, Edward clenched his jaw, struggling momentarily before saying to the doctor, “Doctor, please take care of her for me. I need to get home.”

With that, he rushed out. Sharon, who was still lying on the temporary hospital bed, gripped the sheets

tightly as she watched his retreating figure.

As Edward sped all the way to the apartmentplex, the sound of approaching ambnces filled the

air. An ominous feeling crept over him.

Someone had to be home to call emergency services. It couldn’t be what he thought. He figured that

someone else must have called the ambnces.

With no time to park his car properly, he left it by the curb and ran through the entrance. Just as he entered theplex, he passed a stretcher being carried out.

He abruptly turned back, but paramedics had already blocked his view,

There was no time for him to think. He rushed into the elevator, his heart pounding as he reached his floor.

When he stepped into the hallway, he saw a small crowd gathered near his apartment door, whispering amongst themselves.

“Goodness, that was so dangerous! A gas leak? Where’s the man of the house?”

“He wasn’t there. My son was heading to his morning shift when he saw the woman copsed at the door. He called 911 right away.”

“I just took a look inside. The gas was turned off, and no one else was in the apartment. Does she live alone?”

“Definitely not! I always see a man around when I go grocery shopping. He’s quite handsome. The woman who copsed is a regr resident, but recently, another young woman showed up…” 1

A murmur of gossip swelled. There were two women and one man, but only one woman was left behind in the ident.

That was enough for everyone to overthink the situation.

Edward didn’t hear everything clearly, but his patience snapped. “Move!” he barked.

When the small crowd gathered around and saw the man of the house return, they stepped aside and stopped discussing among themselves.

“Macie, Macie!” Edward rushed inside, calling Macie’s name as he ran toward the small guest room.

But the door was open, and she was nowhere to be seen.

“Hey, are you looking for the prettydy with straight hair? She was already taken away by an ambnce, “an elderly neighbor at the door informed.

Edward turned around, and the neighbor continued nagging, “Are you her husband? Where were you when the gas leak happened? She passed out, and no one even noticed.”

Hearing the words “passed out“, Edward suddenly froze, panic rising in his chest.

It turned out that Macie was taken away in an ambnce. He wondered if it was the one he had just seen at the entrance.

At that moment, emergency gas repair personnel and property management arrived.

Edward instructed them to handle the gas leak before dashing toward the elevator.
