Chapter 89
Edward paused as he turned the doorknob. He then nced back at Sharon. “I haven’t fallen for Macie,” he said tly.
“Who are you trying to fool? You clearly have. That’s why you don’t love me anymore and want me gone,”
Sharon shot back, her fists clenched.
Edward frowned, his expression unreadable. “Not loving you has nothing to do with whether I love Macie. <fn03a4> Th?s chapter is updated by f?ndnovel</fn03a4>
I’ve told you that you and I ended two years ago. You betrayed me for money and left. There’s no going
back from that.”
Sharon still refused to believe him. It was apparent that Edward had fallen for Macie, which was why he no longer loved her.
“When I first came back, you told me that you didn’t mind anymore. You said you understood. How could I have fought against your Grandpa back then? He threatened me to leave. What else could I do? Did you want him to banish me from the city?”
Edward replied, “Not minding meant that we could be friends again, not that we could restart our
rtionship.”
He had reflected on it before. Even though he could still get close to Sharon, he could never cross that final line. And every time he did, he felt guilty, like he was betraying Macie.
So, the truth was that what Edward thought was love for Sharon was just an illusion. He didn’t love her
anymore.
Sharon sneered. “Stop ying games with me. What kind of friends kiss and sleep in their wives‘ room? You still love me. Why won’t you admit it? We had three years together. Two years apart wouldn’t erase that unless you never really loved me in the first ce.”
Then, she resorted to maniption. “I admit, leaving the country was my fault, but I had no choice! I was a victim, too! If you loved me, you should’ve gone abroad with me. You should’ve protected me when your grandfather threatened me instead of doing nothing and then resenting me for leaving!”
Sharon was good at twisting the narrative, and her outburst left Edward wordless. Without saying another word, he walked into the master bedroom and shut the door.
In truth, he couldn’t find a way to refute her.
“Edward! Come out! You said that you don’t love Macie, which means that you still love me!” Sharon shouted as she pounded on the door.
“I came back to make it up to you. Let’s live together, okay? I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. You and Macie are already divorced. There’s no love between you two. I forgive you for having a marriage behind my back. Let’s start over!”
Inside the room, Edward sat on the edge of the bed, his mind in chaos. He still held the signed divorce agreement in his hands. T
Did he not love Macie? Was he still in love with Sharon? Was it his fault for not protecting her back then? Was marrying Macie a betrayal of their love? His head was pounding, his thoughts a tangled mess.
Putting aside everything Sharon had said, there was one thing he knew for sure–he and Macie weren’t divorced. Whether it was the photocopy or the original sent to Yosef, he believed that it was all fake.
Edward’s focus returned, and his rationality kicked in. He headed to the bathroom to shower, ignoring Sharon’s voice outside the door.
As the steam rose and the water flowed, only one question upied his mind–did he love Macie?
Macie was gone, and he had been frantically searching for her. Beneath his anger and frustration was a deep sense of panic and anxiety.
He had grown so used to having Macie by his side. Without her, he couldn’t eat or sleep, and everything reminded him of her.
