Invitation 98

Julian turned to look at Macie. She had applied light makeup with soft red lips that weren’t too bold. Her overall look was simple and fresh, giving her an understated elegance.

“Not at all. You look beautiful.” Julian didn’t hold back his praise at all.

He smiled and added, “Back in college, you were our department’s top beauty and one of the most outstanding students. The number of guys chasing after you could probably circle the whole city of Williamford.”

“Stop teasing me.” Macie blushed slightly.

Julian chuckled. Seeing how easily she got flustered, he felt like he was back in their college days.

He was tempted to ask if she had a boyfriend but figured that it was too soon since they’d only just reconnected. So, he decided to hold off for now.

As they chatted, the elevator reached the 12th floor.

Julian led the way as he introduced the ce. “Look, this is ourpany logo–Brightech Studios. It’s a bit tacky, but we hope it brings us good luck.”

Macie looked at thepany name and then nced around the front lobby. It was simple yet stylish. It was spotless and had a polished, professional feel.

“Good morning, Mr. Atkins,” the receptionist greeted Julian.

Julian nodded before turning back to Macie. “Come to think of it, I asked you back then what to name the

“Of course not. It has a strong, promising feel. You picked a great name.” She smiled.

As they walked through the office, he gave her a quick rundown of the different departments they passed.

Behind them, the receptionist stared in surprise at Julian and the unfamiliar woman. Her mind raced with

    questions.

She wondered if Julian had really asked her for input when naming thepany. She was curious about this woman’s identity and pondered if she was his wife.

But the woman had called him Julian. Shouldn’t she have called him “honey” if she were his wife?

The HR department members handling the interview were already in the conference room. When the door opened, they saw Julian walking in with Macie. They immediately stood up.

    “Good morning, Mr. Atkins.”

“This is Macie Smith, the candidate I mentioned the other day. Go ahead and proceed with the interview. Don’t

    mind me,” he said.

Macie stepped forward and extended a hand, her smile warm. “Hello, everyone. I’m Macie Smith.”

The interviewers shook her hand in turn as they introduced themselves, their expressions friendly.

Julian had not only personally rmended Macie but had also apanied her to the interview. From the

looks of it, he intended to stay and watch.

That only heightened the interviewers‘ pressure. Hiring Macie was a given, and they were just following

    procedure.

They were impressed as they reviewed her resume. What they had assumed was favoritism turned out to be

    genuine talent.

Macie had graduated from Arlington College as a national honors student, won numerous high–levelpetitions, and even brought along a portfolio of her work.

When her designs were projected onto the screen, the interviewers nodded in approval.

It was unsurprising that someone personally recruited by the boss would be on a different level. No wonder he

was giving her so much attention.

“Macie said that she’s gotten rusty after a two–year break, but that’s really selling herself short. Her skills

haven’t dropped one bit,” Julian remarked. He smiled as he looked at the screen.

Macie smiled faintly but didn’t respond. This was her best work. She’d spent a month brushing up her skills just

to get back to this level.

One of the interviewers asked, “Ms. Smith, we currently have an opening for the lead designer position in

Design Team Three. Would you be interested?”

Before Macie could answer, Julian interjected, “Isn’t Palmer Sten, the design director, nning to transfer to another department?”

The interviewers quickly understood what Julian was getting at.
